HISTORY

Createdin1961,YouthCamp&Exchange(YCE)isoneofLionsInternational’slongestrunningserviceprograms.ItwasdesignedinresponsetoLionsthirdpurpose–tocreateandfosteraspiritofunderstandingamongthepeoplesoftheworld.Districtsandmultipledistrictsthatsponsoryouthtogoabroad,hostyouthintheirowncountry,organisecamps,oralloftheabovedemonstratetheirdedicationtopromotingpeaceandglobalunderstanding.

TheLionsInternationalYouthCampandExchangeProgramislife-changing.Participantshaveauniqueculturallearningexperiencewetherintheirowncountryortravellingtoanother,livingasindividualwithahostfamilyandtakingpartinacampwherealargergroupoftheseyoungadultsarelivingtogetherfortwoweeksandfurtherexploretheenvironnementandthecountry.

ThisprogramisfullyfundedbyLionsBelgium&Luxemburg,itsdistrictsandlocalclubs.Theparticipationisfreeofchargeforthecampers.

Theactivitiesthatfulfilltheobjectivesoftheprogram,whichareto:

• Bringpeopleformdifferentcountriesintomeaningfulcontactwitheachother• Permitthesharingofideas,idealsandculturalviewpoints• Promoteinternationalunderstandingandgoodwill,andworktowardsthegoalsofworldpeace

andhumanunderstanding• Encouragerespectinyoungpeopleforthethinkingofothers.

TheactivitiesprogramthatweofferwillbeamixtureofgettingtodiscoverBelgiumandLuxemburgduringvisitstoitsmaincities(i.e.Liège,Brussels,Luxemburg,Antwerp)andplaces(Seaside,Mines,etc…)andsportiveactivitiesandgames.

BaseCamplocatedintheYouthHostel«Hanenbos»aProvincialResidenceCentrumnearBeersel.Hanenbosisanaccommodationcentreforyoungpeoplesurroundedbynature.Thelocationandfacilitieswerethedriverstoselectthislocation.

HanenbosisacampsitenearBeerselnotfarfromBrusselslocatedclosetotheProvincialAreaofHuizingenwithaswimmingpoolandothersportfacilities.

Thecapacityofthecentrumismorethan110personenforsleeping.Theroomsaredividedinto1,2and6places.

Hanenbosadjoinsa15-hectarenatureareaandisthereforanicestartingpointfornatureandenvironmentaleducation.

- AllpersonalinformationpertainingtotheParticipantswillbeeraseduponthecompletionoftheYouthExchangePrograms,exceptincountrieswherelocalregulationsstatethattheymustberetainedforacertainperiodoftime.Afterthistimehaspaddes,LionswillensurethatalldeferredpersonaldataoftheParticipantswillthenbeerased.

CAMPRULES

Inordertohaveagoodsuccesfulcamp,simplyhaveanopenmindfornewpeopleandsituationsaswellasapositiveapproachtoyournewsurroundings.Usecommonsensandjudgementatalltimes.Keepinmindthattheimageyouleavebehindwillrepresentyourfamily,yourcountryandyourpeople.Staffmembers,SeniorsandJuniorStaff,areentitledtoenforcetherules.CampManagementreservestherighttoterminateaCamper’sparticipationformisconductornotobeyingtherulesoftheStaff.TheCamperwillbesenthomeimmediately,his/herparentandtheoutsendingLionsClubwillbeinformed.Theparentswillbeheldfullyresponsible.

GeneralrulesfortheentireCampProgram

• AllCampersareobligedtocompletetheentireprogram;• Participateactivelyinourcampprogram;• SpeakENGLISHwithallparticipantsandwiththecampstaff;• Haveahelpful,positiveandfriendlyattitudetowardseachother;• Respectdifferentethical,religious,politicalattitudes;• FollowinstructionsandrequestsgivenbyCampCoordinatorsandStaff;• InformtheCampstaffimmediatelyifyouareillorfeelnotwell;• Thebedroomisaprivateplace:respecteachother’sprivacy• Smokingisbylawnotallowedinsidethecampaccomodationsandinsideanyother

(public)buildingorrestaurant/caféinBelgium.Smokingisonlyallowedonthereservedplaceoutsideandneverintheforest.

• Itisnotallowedtobedrunkortopossessorusedrugsofanykindduringtheentireperiodofthecamp:allkindofdrugs(alsocannabis)areillegalinBelgium.YouwillbesenthomeimmediatelyonyourowncostbytheMulti-districtYouthExchangeChairpersoninchargeifyoudopossessoruseanykindofdrugs.

• Therewillbearrangedeventswherecomsuptionofalcoholcanbeallowed.Dependingofyourageyouareallowedtodrinklightalcoholicbeverageswhenthecampstaffprovidesthese.Liquor(anystrongalcoholicbeverages≥15°ALCVOL)isnotallowed.Drinkingalcoholinthebedroomswithoutpermissionofthecampstaffisnotallowed.

• Youarenotallowedtoleavethecampand/orgroupwithoutpermissionfromthecampstaff;

• Itisneitherpermittedtoaskforortoacceptanyhitchhikefromunauthorizedpersons;• Itisstrictlyforbiddentodrivemotorvehicles/boats• Itisstrictlyforbiddentomakefireinandoutsidethecampplace• Eachparticipantsisexpectedtokeephis/herownbedroomcleanandtidy;• MakesureyouhaveyourcampT-shirtalwayswithyou.Onsomeoccasionsyouwillbe
