My qualifications and experience includes:Bachelor of Education completed 1988.Over 20 years of teaching experience in secondarysettings and a period of 2 years in a specialist school.Graduate Diploma of Professional Counselling 2007.Life-line and Mental Health First Aid 2009Establishing Literacy Coaching 2010.

Literacy Coaching

• Research shows that one of the best ways of improving the teaching of literacy is through coaching.

• Responsibility for literacy within schools is cross-curricular. Therefore literacy coaching is not just for English teachers!

• Why do you think it’s better if the coach comes from within the context?

Coaching continued.

• Think about our changing work conditions. Teachers have less time and more demands than ever. How could you make the coaching process a ‘positive’ in your role?

Thinking time.

• Think about what is important to you as a teacher. How important is data? How important are learning experiences?

• The coaching process can take a variety of forms.

• However, most importantly, it should be:• CONFIDENTIAL• SUPPORTIVE,

and TAILORED TO THE COACHEE’S NEEDS…

Be ready to look towards positive horizons!

And, last but not least…The coach doesn’t need to be perfect!
