SAINT BENET’S (CONTRACTION OF BENEDICT)

St Bene't's is a Church of England Parish church in the center of Cambridge. Parts of the church, most notably the tower, are Anglo-

Saxon, and it is the oldest church in Cambridgeshire and the oldest building in Cambridge.

St Bene't's Anglo-Saxon tower was "most probably" built between AD 1000–1050. The tower has Anglo-Saxon

architecture and construction.

Inside the church the 11th-century arch supporting the tower is the most notable

feature. Parts of the north and south walls of

THE CORPUS CLOCKThe Corpus Clock is a large sculptural clock at street level on the outside

of the JOHN C. TAYLOR LIBRARY AT CORPUS CHRISTI COLLEGE. (Taylor is Alumni of College)

OUR FRIEND, SIMON, WAS VERY EXCITED OVER THE STRIKING OF THIS CLOCK.

HE SHOULD BE. MR TAYLOR INVESTED WELL OVER A

MILLION £ FOR THIS CLOCK. IT IS THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD LIKE THIS. IT IS A FULL MECHANICAL... NO

COMPUTERS OR ELECTRICAL MECHANISMS, EXCEPT FOR A

MOTOR WHICH WILL WIND THE CLOCK EVERY 24 HRS.

“PUNTING” TIME...A punt is a flat-bottomed boat with a square-cut bow, designed for

use in small rivers or other shallow water. Punting refers to boating in a punt. The punter generally propels the punt by pushing against

Punts were originally built as cargo boats or platforms for duck hunting or fishing, but in modern times their use is almost

exclusively confined to pleasure trips with passengers.
