Long Beach
California
“Relax by the Waterside”
L ong Beach is a big city with a small town feel
and presents a friendly and relaxed
atmosphere of an ocean side community which offers
year round sunny skies and a moderate temperature.
The scenic down-town and waterfront marina are all
easily accessible on foot or just jump on the free
Passport Shuttle bus that is available in the city area and
travels in a 3 mile radius of the city centre where you
will find first class accommodation , shopping and a
large variety of restaurants.
A visit would not be complete without exploring the
popular attractions like the Queen Mary, The
Aquarium of the Pacific, the Museum of Latin
American Art or the Long Beach Museum of Art to
name but a few. The annual Toyota Grand Prix is also
held here in Long Beach.
The Queen Mary
RMS Queen Mary is a retired ocean liner that sailed
primarily on the North Atlantic Ocean from 1936 to
1967 for the Cunard Line.
After several years of decreased profits for Cunard, the
Queen Mary was officially retired from service in
1967.
She left Southampton for the last time on 31 October
1967 and sailed to the port of Long Beach, California,
where she remains permanently moored. Much of the
machinery, including one of the two engine rooms,
three of the four propellers, and all of the boilers,
were removed.
The ship serves as a tourist attraction featuring
restaurants, a museum, and hotel. The ship is listed on
the National Register of Historic Places. The National
Trust for Historic Preservation has accepted the
Queen Mary as part of the Historic Hotels of America.
The Toyota Grand Prix
The Long Beach Grand Prix is the longest running major
"street" race held on the North American continent. It
started in 1975 as a Formula 5000 race on the streets of
downtown, and became a Formula One event in 1976.
The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach is an open-wheel race
held on a street circuit in Long Beach, California.
Christopher Pook is the founder and promoter which began
as a vision while working at a travel agency in downtown
Long Beach. It was the premier circuit in Champ Car from
1996, and was the first event in the World Series each year
from 2004. The 2008 race was the last race for Champ Cars
as the series merged with the Indy Racing League, and is
now an event on the Verizon Indy Car Series calendar.

The Aquarium of the Pacific The Aquarium of the Pacific’s mission is to instil a sense of wonder, respect, and stewardship for the Pacific Ocean, its inhabitants, and ecosystems. The Aquarium is one of the largest aquariums in the
United States. Home
to over 11,000 ocean
animals, its 500 species
fill 19 major living
habitats. Thirty-two
focus exhibits take you
on a journey
throughout the Pacific
Ocean's three regions:
Southern California
and Baja, the Tropical
Pacific and the
Northern Pacific.
Three interactive outdoor exhibits include Shark
Lagoon, featuring a touch tank, Lorikeet Forest and
our Watersheds: Pathway to the Pacific.
The Southern California & Baja Gallery features the
varied habitats of this region. The first exhibit is the
142,000-US-gallon (540,000 l) three-story Blue Cavern
tank, which houses animals that live in the waters
surrounding nearby Catalina Island.
Next is the Amber
Forest exhibit, which
replicates a Giant kelp
forest with Garibaldi,
California scorpion
fish, and other
representative
organisms. The Gulf of
