Question: Who Cares What You Wear or How You Look As Long As You Perform?

In an ideal world, no one would.  However, in the real world, we form an impression of a person in the first 30 seconds to 2 minutes after we meet him or her.

Recent research suggests that, not only are first impressions hard to change, if someone makes a negative first impression on us, we’re less likely to seek that person out again. So while initial impressions can be changed, human nature works against us having the opportunity to do so.

You are seen before you are heard. As a result, before you open your mouth, your appearance has already spoken volumes about you. Whether the other person realizes it or not, s/he has already made assumptions about your competence, intelligence, judgment and so forth.  In fact, according to Dr. Albert Mehrabian’s research, our visual image (physical appearance and body language) accounts for over half of the first impressions we create.

Personal Grooming Looking your best for work is very

important in today’s business world. The way you look and act determines what people think about you. The objective of personal grooming is to display the level of professionalism necessary for you to be the BEST YOU in your work environment.

Question :Why can’t you take personal grooming for granted?

Personal Grooming means Personal Hygiene Do keep in mind that personal hygiene is

important no matter what field of work you are in. Being clean and neat speaks to how you treat your body and possibly the environment around you.

A businessman needs to make a good impression upon those he encounters during day to day business endeavors. Showing proper personal grooming is letting everyone know that he is serious about his job.

NAILS Personal Grooming for nails means they should

always be clean and shaped. Smooth and shape jagged edges for both aesthetic and safety purposes, as handshaking and close person to person contact, have proven to be an essential part of the work day for most businessmen.

HAIR Personal Grooming for hair means hair should

be clean, neat, and tidy. A businessman should always well shaved and tapered about the face.

DO DO NOT

SKIN Clean , moisturized, and well groomed

exposed skin areas, go a long way in making a sound physical presentation . Make sure that you keep it conservative and not be distracting. Don’t wear heavy colognes, sprays, hairsprays, etc . You should not smell like cigarettes and be sure that jewelry is conservative as well.

These are just a few simple rules for proper personal grooming. Personal Grooming is not about vanity but simply about presenting yourself appropriately.
