GET IT GOING: Following Clayton Kershaw’s stellar
performance last night, the Dodgers evened the series 1-1 in their
four-game set at AT&T Park with a 2-1 victory over the Giants.
Los Angeles snapped their six-game losing streak in the Bay
Area, which was its longest losing streak in San Francisco since
April 21-September 2, 2015, when the club dropped seven
straight games. Following the four-game series at AT&T Park,
the Dodgers will return home for a six-game homestand against
the Philadelphia Phillies and the San Francisco Giants.
Los Angeles looks to win its second consecutive game at
AT&T Park, which would be the first time the club has
won two straight in San Francisco since September 13-
14, 2014.
The Dodgers also snapped their four-game losing streak
to the Giants, which was the longest losing streak since
losing five in-a-row on May 19-June 20, 2015.
The Blue Crew lost the 2016 season series 8-11 against
the Giants, including a 2-8 mark at AT&T Park for their
second straight season.
GONE STREAKING: With a single in the top of the first inning
in last night’s contest, Dodger third baseman Justin Turner
extended his hitting streak to a career-high tying 11 games (also:
August 26-September 11, 2011). Turner, who finished last night
going 2-for-4 with a run scored, has gone 15-for-42 (.357) with
four runs, four doubles, four RBI and four hit by pitches, along
with a .449 OBP and a .452 SLG during the run which started on
April 13. Turner currently leads the National League in doubles
(9, 2nd MLB), while ranking in the NL’s top 10 in batting average
(.352, T-6th), on-base percentage (.425, 8th), multi-hit games (8,
T-8th) and hit by pitches (5, 2nd) in 19 games to start the season.
STRONG RELIEF: Following Clayton Kershaw’s gem last
night of allowing just one run on six hits in 7.0 innings with seven
strikeouts, the Dodger bullpen allowed only two hits in 2.0
scoreless innings of relief. The Dodger ‘pen, which has recorded
12 scoreless appearances in 21 games this season, leads the
National League in ERA (2.97, 22 ER/66.2 IP), opponents’ on-
base percentage (.281), opponents’ slugging percentage (.289)
and fielding independent pitching (2.01). Dodger relievers also
rank among the senior circuit in opponents’ batting average (.209,
3rd), WHIP (1.16, 4th) and strikeouts (79, 2nd), while posting a 3.16
strikeout-to-walk ratio, which ranks third in the NL and also has
allowed just one home run.
Dodger closer Kenley Jansen collected his fifth save of
the season with a four-out save in last night’s contest, his
third four-out save of the year. It was Jansen’s 16th career
four-plus out save of his career, which ranks fifth among
active big league relievers and has the most four-plus out
saves in the Majors since 2016 with eight.
Since returning from the disabled list on April 14, Pedro
Báez has tossed 7.0 scoreless innings of relief in six
appearances and has allowed just one hit (1-for-22, .045)
with eight strikeouts. Since Sept. 6, 2016, Báez has tossed
a career-high 18.2 scoreless innings in 17 games, limiting
hitters just a .127 (8-for-63) average with 23 strikeouts
against seven walks during that span.
Dodger southpaw Grant Dayton made his first rehab
appearance last night with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga,
striking out the side on 13 pitches in the first inning.
Dayton was placed on the 10-day disabled list on April
18 with an intercostal strain.
PUIG YOUR FRIEND: Dodger right fielder Yasiel Puig, who
drove in one of the two runs for the Dodgers in last night’s game
with an RBI single in the fourth inning, has fared well at AT&T
Park throughout his career. In 27 career games in San Francisco,
Puis is slashing .305 (32-for-105)/.376/.448 with 14 runs, four
doubles, four triples, a home run and five RBI. Puig has reached
base safely in 18 out of his last 19 games in San Francisco, batting
.324 (24-for-74) with 10 runs, three doubles, three triples and four
RBI along with a .398 on-base percentage during that span.
LEAVE IT TO SEAGER: Corey Seager, who finished last
night’s contest going 1-for-3 with a run, a walk and a stolen base,
became just the third Los Angeles Dodgers to record his 250th
career hit before turning 23. Seager, who will celebrate his 23rd
birthday tomorrow, recorded a single in the eighth inning to join
Adrian Beltre and Willie Davis as the only Los Angeles Dodger
to accomplish the feat. He has hit safely in 12 of his last 15 games,
batting .327 (18-for-55) with 10 runs, four doubles, two homers
and 10 RBI. In 21 games this season, Seager has posted a .312
(24-for-77)/.386/.506 slashline with 12 runs, six doubles, three
homers and 15 RBI, which is tied for the 13th most in the National
League.

THE DEBUT: Cody Bellinger, who had his contract selected
prior to last night’s contest from Triple-A Oklahoma City, made
his Major League debut yesterday with the start in left field.
Bellinger also recorded his first career hit, with an infield single
in the ninth inning off of Giants’ reliever Neil Ramirez. Bellinger,
who entered the 2017 season rated by MLB.com as the Dodgers’
No. 1 prospect and rated by Baseball America as the seventh-best
overall prospect in baseball, posted a .343 (23-for-67)/.429/.627
slashline with 15 runs, four doubles, five home runs, 15 RBI and
seven stolen bases in 18 games with the OKC Dodgers this year.
Prior to his promotion, Bellinger ranked among the Pacific Coast
League leaders in runs (T-4th), home runs (T-4th), RBI (T-8th),
total bases (42, T-6th), stolen bases (T-2nd), on-base percentage
(11th), slugging percentage (9th) and OPS (1.055, 7th). The 21-
year-old entered his fifth professional season after being selected
by the Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2013 First-Year Player
Draft.
To make room on the active roster, the Dodgers optioned
outfielder Brett Eibner, who went 1-for-5 (.200) in three
games in two stints with Los Angeles, to Triple-A
Oklahoma City and to create room on the 40-man roster,
Los Angeles designated right-handed pitcher Joe Gunkel
for assignment.
THEY KNOW CUETO: A couple of Dodgers have fared well
against tonight’s starter for the Giants, Johnny Cueto, including
Corey Seager, who has gone 6-for-17 (.353) with a double and
an RBI against the right-hander in his career. Justin Turner has
also hit the ball well against Cueto, batting .333 (7-for-21) with
two doubles, a home run and two RBI, while Chase Utley has
gone 11-for-34 (.324) with a double, a homer and two RBI.
