The direct object of a sentence receives the action of the verb.

It answers the question who? or what?

The indirect object of a sentence is the person who receives the direct object

or the person who benefits from the actionof the verb.

It answers the question to whom? or for whom?

Ejemplo: El cartero nos trae las cartas a nosotros.
