AQUILA Aquila is the formal name of the constellation.

Also known as the “Celestial Eagle”

Location Aquila constellation is located in the

northern sky, near the celestial equator. Right ascension: 20 hours. Declination: +5 degrees

Occupying an area of 652 square degrees in the fourth quadrant of the northern hemisphere (NQ4)

Aquila is the 22nd biggest star constellation in the sky.

The neighboring constellations are Aquarius, Capricornus, Delphinus, Hercules, Ophiuchus, Sagitta, Sagittarius, Scutum, and Serpens Cauda.

Visible Aquila, the Eagle, is visible in the northern hemisphere from July

through October and visible in the DFW area.

The constellation Aquila is considered to be part of the Zodiac family.

Aquila contains three stars with a magnitude less than 3.

The brightest star in the constellation is Altair, Alpha Aquilae, which is also the 12th brightest star in the sky. Gamma Aquilae and Zeta Aquilae being the second and third brightest stars in the constellation.

To the ancient Greeks, Aquila was the servant of Zeus who held the god's thunderbolts and performed errands for him. He may also be the great eagle who devours Prometheus' liver as punishment for giving fire to humans.
