A boy asks his father, "Dad, are bugs good to eat?“ "That's disgusting. Don't talk about things like that over dinner," the dad

replies. After dinner the father asks, "Now, son, what did you want to ask me?“ "Oh, nothing," the boy says. "There was a bug

in your soup, but now it’s gone."

Lunarfins Belize Trip

Punny… With her marriage, she got a new name and a dress.

The man who fell into an upholstery machine is fully recovered. A midget fortune-teller who escapes from prison is a small medium at large.

Once you've seen one shopping centre, you've seen a mall.

Eleven Lunarfins just returned from a diving trip to Belize organized by Barbara Corbin. We flew into Belize City and then a Maya Air flight to San Pedro, a community on Ambergris Cay. Ambergris Cay is the largest island of Belize, located northeast of the country in the Caribbean Sea. It is about 25 miles long from north to south and about one mile wide. Our accommodations at the Sunbreeze Suites were excellent. The rooms overlooked the pool, beach, boat docks, and Caribbean. Adjacent the pool patio was a wash tank for our gear. San Pedro has many small restaurants serving Belizean meals and drinks. There are also an ample number of shops and beach bars. A barrier reef a short distance off shore caused a rough boat ride through pass due to easterly winds. Most dive sites were within 15 minutes of the docks. On two tank dives we returned to the dock between dives for fresh fruit snacks. On days of three dives we had a lunch break after the second morning dive. The reefs appeared healthy, but there was a lack of fish. We think it might be due to over fishing by the locals. The dive guides have been spearing lionfish and feeding them to nurse sharks. On every dive we had several nurse sharks following us. Saw the guide spear only two lionfish, and other than that didn’t see many others. Dives were along walls and crevices with depths ranging between 90 and 30 feet. Water temp of 82. Everyone agreed we should plan another trip.

The Lunarfins Scuba Club was organized in 1963 by a small group of divers who worked at the Manned Spacecraft Center, as Johnson Space Center (JSC) was known back then. The club grew primarily through the sponsorship of SCUBA training classes, local dive trips and social activities. Since that time, membership has broadened to include anyone interested in diving. The majority of our members are in some way affiliated with NASA but this is not a requirement for membership and we have members from all across the board.

Pot Luck Supper at the Puschinsky’s Saturday, June 10 there were about 30 Lunarfins and friends who enjoyed a feast of crawfish, ribs and several excellent side dishes and desserts. The best part was catching up with everyone. Fred Toole had his beautifully restored 1955 Austin Healey to show off.

Thank you, Bob and Marilyn, for hosting!
