Magazine Review:

Evaluation

My task was to make a magazine review for the film that I have produced. For me this included writing the review, deciding on extra features for the page, taking promotional pictures, capturing screen shots and producing a front cover (as explained earlier)

After completion I produced a questionnaire to help evaluate my review. Here are my results.

Review Questionnaire Closed questions

Q: Did you like the review?

As can be seen from my results, out of the 12 people asked 100% said that they liked my review.

Yes

No

Q: Did you find the review informative?

Once again, when asked whether they thought the review was informative, all the people asked said yes.

Q: How would you rate the review out of 5?

This was my final closed question. My review was given the highest mark by over 50% of people asked but for the lower marks there were suggestions of improvements given.

Open questions

Q: What did you like most about the review?

I liked the comparison with

the last film

The explanation about silent films because I

wouldn’t normally want to watch one but I think

I’d watch this one.

The screenshots – they’ve made me

want to know more about the film

I like the things about the music because

you don’t always get that from film magazines

I liked the way it was laid out – I didn’t feel over faced by all the writing.

Q: Is there anything else you would have done?

I think there could

have been more media

language used.

I think that there could have been more said

about the film rather than the people involved

I would have made the text smaller, I think it’s a

bit too big

I’m still unsure about the idea of a silent film.

My response:

Although these are quite critical comments, I was happy that these were the only ones, and personally I don’t think they are particularly bad.

On with the evaluation…

Front cover.A tagline for the magazine

A name for the magazine – I checked that this wasn’t already in use

A headline that is similar to the one used inside the magazine for my review

Other headlines to make it look more realistic

Barcode

Date & Price - I have had many comments about this but the date shows 2010 which would be 20 years since Cry Baby was released

Page 1Pun in the title

A box with the basic information of the film and the rating from the magazine – I did the stars blue as that is the colour of the title

Sub heading explaining which film is being featured

Bold first paragraph. Also through out the review, I made sure film names were in italic

Posed picture of the two actors, although there is a nod to the content of the film, it doesn’t give anything away

Film name and page number

Page 2

Two stills from the film to give readers another view of what the film might be like.

A quote from the review in a larger font to draw the reader in.

A brief summary of the film.

Release date for the film.

Overall I think that my magazine review was a success, as can be seen from my

questionnaire, nobody really had anything bad to say about it.

I think that I managed to include the necessary features of a successful

magazine review although if I was to re-produce it I would take into consideration

the suggestions that people made.
