System modifications, repairs and upgrades
PSB main power converter
• Replacement of MCR “Grounding key” system by a software Veto (like PS machine)• Veto will permit or not to pulse the PSB• Not enough to work on magnets => consignation required
• Regulation upgrade• A new digital regulation will be tested at the start-up• The goal is to improve the current stability and reproducibility of the converter for the LHC beam• If the results are better than with the previous regulation, it may be used in operation. To be discuss in March with M. BENEDIKT• Swap from new to old regulation in less than 1 hour

System modifications, repairs and upgrades
PS main power converter
• The motor and generator rotors were replaced by their spares in 2005The spare rotors are the original ones (1969)The spares are unused since 1975 ~Mechanically and electrically tested at no load without any problem
First tests with magnets in February!!!
• The broken rotor will be repaired at CERN by SIEMENS. This shall be done for July.• In case of trouble, a rotor replacement required at least 1 month.• Many others preventive maintenance works had been done on auxiliaries equipments (transformer, rheostat, voltage suppressor…) and will not affect operation.

System modifications, repairs and upgrades
PS• PI.SMH 26 injection ions from LEIR New power converter 16.5 kA / 1.7 kV for new injection septum magnet Capacitors discharge type with third harmonic and active filter, installed in bat. 367
• PR.BSW 26 for ions in PS New power converter 30A / 100V. 2 magnets in series type 205 (section 22 and 30). Capacitors discharge type, installed in bat. 365
• PR.SMH57 New switch-mode power converter 10 kA / 8V (5 * 2kA in //, LHC type) Replaces the old thyristor + linear transistor converter. Identical performance and no change for operation.
• PR.SMH61 New switch-mode power converter 1600A / 16V (2 * 2kA / 8V in series) Same remarks as for SMH57.
• PFW no change! New PFW with 5-current mode will be commissioned in 2007.

System modifications, repairs and upgrades
SPS
• SPS main power converters - A new acquisition system for the DCCT will be tested at start-up but it probably can’t be used before the migration of the ROCS under FESA- Michel JONKER (AB/CO) will manage the software modification
• SPS north experimental area- The tests of the new junction crate based on FESA will be done before the start-up - The old junction crate, PCA, CAMAC and NODAL will be used for 2006 operation
- The operation may be affected by the water leaks of the BA80 roof if no work is done before the start-up!!!

Changes to AB/PO operation support
• 2004 One standby service for PS complex covered by CERN Staff One standby service for SPS including experimental areas covered by First Line contract (S077)
• 2005 One standby service for PS complex covered by FSU AB11
Up to 2005, the trend was to externalize all the standby services (PS + SPS) due to lack of resources. With the end of LHC construction and new posts, PO staff can now assume the standby services for LHC injectors and LHC ring.
• 2006 One standby service for the LHC injectors covered by CERN Staff One standby service for the experimental areas covered by FSU AB11
• 2007-2008 One more standby service for LHC ring and experiments will start

Summary
• No major change in hardware• Big worry about the PS rotating machine• More faults expected at the start-up due to the long shutdown
• Two standby services- One for LHC injectors- The other for experimental areas
• One AB/PO coordinator per machine
