This Sunday at the 10:30am Liturgy and for the
next two weeks, the Elect (those chosen for
Sacraments at Easter) will be experiencing what is
called a Scrutiny. As they reach this turning point
in their faith lives, the Church invites them to
undergo a deeper conversion of heart. In order to
do that they, and for us as well, we ask them to do
some soul-searching and repentance.
“The Scrutinies are meant to uncover, then heal
all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the hearts of
the elect; to bring out, then strengthen all that is
upright, strong, and good. For the scrutinies are
celebrated in order to deliver the elect from the
power of sin and Satan, to protect them against
temptation, and to give them strength in Christ,
who is the way, the truth, and the life. (RCIA 141)
“In order to inspire in the elect a desire for
purification and redemption by Christ, three
scrutinies are celebrated. By this means, first of
all, the elect are instructed gradually about the
mystery of sin, from which the whole world and
every person longs to be delivered and thus saved
from its present and future consequences.
Second, their spirit is filled with Christ the
Redeemer, who is the living water (gospel of the
Samaritan woman in the 1st Scrutiny), the light of
the world (gospel of the man born blind in the 2nd
Scrutiny), the resurrection and the life (gospel of
Lazarus in the 3rd Scrutiny). (RCIA 143)
From the first to the final Scrutiny the elect, and
hopefully all of us, progress in our perception of
sin and our desire for salvation.
Please keep the elect in your prayers during these
coming weeks.
Peace,

accreditation efforts.
Fatima students will be participating in the North Deanery Science Fair at Bishop Blanchet High School on Thursday, March
27th.
For our Lenten service project this week, we are collecting
toothpaste for the guests at Sacred Heart Shelter.
Our 60th Diamond Anniversary Jubilee and Fundraiser is just about a week away!
