Senior Adult Spring Picnic luncheon- That’s right…Springtime is just
around the corner and we will “spring” into it with a picnic luncheon at
Smith’s Farm located near Clarence, Louisiana. The meal will consist of
Grayson’s barbecue with all of the trimmings and the entertainment will
be provided once again by David Sanders. You will recall that David
entertained us at our February meeting and he graciously accepted the
invitation to join us for this event. The date is Thursday, March 19 and
the time is 11:30 a.m. Please sign up in the church office no later than
Tuesday, March 16th to allow us plenty of time to order the food. For
those needing transportation to the Smith’s Farm, the church buses will
depart at 11:00 a.m. Please indicate if you plan on riding the bus when
you sign up for this event.
Men’s Sportsman’s Banquet – The Men’s Ministry at FBC will be

First Baptist Church-Haughton, will be the guest speaker for this event.

COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY The Community Food Pantry continues to give out bags every
Thursday with nutritious staples to individuals and families who live in
Winn Parish. They accomplish this task through the work of volunteers
from all over our parish. They operate solely through gifts and
donations from churches, individuals, businesses, and clubs – without
any government funds. Along with food items, they now offer eggs
donated every week from a local business, school uniforms, Christian
books and devotionals, New Testaments, homemade jellies and jams,
an opportunity to pray with a minister, and enhanced choices on the
“Lagniappe” table. Thank you for keeping this local ministry alive.

A Note from Pastor Danny Keyes
James 1:21-22 “Rid yourself of evil and impurities and receive the word of God. Be doers of the word and not hearers only.” Early in my career as a minister I ran across some advice about the secret to a good sermon. It needs a good beginning, a good ending, and they should be as close together as possible. The length of a sermon is an important issue and much has been said both seriously and in jest about that topic. But everyone should also be aware of the importance of the role of the listener. Since the vast majority of the readers of this are listeners, let me share some simple ideas about our responsibility. James 1:21 says we need to PREPARE for the message. He says “rid ourselves of sin (evil)” and anything else that will hinder us as the word is delivered. This same verse also reminds us to PARTICIPATE by “receiving the word of God”. James 1:22 challenges us to PRACTICE what we hear by being “doers of the word and not hearers only”. The success of the sermon portion of worship is the responsibility of each of us. Developing and delivering a “good” sermon is challenging. It must be biblically based, doctrinally sound, and practical and interesting to the listener. What a waste of the preacher’s (and God’s) time if the listeners are not willing to carry their share of the load. Let us clear our hearts and minds of the sin and distractions of the world, be open to the truth of God’s word, and commit to put what we hear into practice in our lives. It will be surprising how much more interesting the sermons become and how much our spiritual health will improve.
See you in church Sunday,

The Table Parents/Guardians of children and youth! We want to invite you to come
to "The Table". This is a new event through the NCBA focusing on
equipping and discipling parents. Our desire is to make it readily
available to all adults in our Association so we have 2 dates scheduled. In
Winn Parish, we'll be meeting on Monday, March 9th, from 6:30-8:00pm
at FBC Winnfield. The same event will take place the following week on
Monday, March 16th, 6:30-8:00pm at Ebenezer Baptist Church in
Jackson Parish. This first event's topic is dealing with "Social Media",
and titled: Training for Families to Raise Up Disciples of Jesus: In the
Digital Age. The speed at which our world is changing digitally is
staggering. That's why we at the NCBA see a need to address relevant
issues like social media and equip parents and guardians to lead and
respond with knowledge and wisdom in training up and raising their
families today.
We'll be discussing 6 of the most downloaded and widely used social
media apps, along with application of Biblical truth in navigating this
ever changing world. Dinner will be provided, so make plans now to join
us!
