Adventures in Missions
Hola! How are yall doing? I
hope everything is going
fine back home. I must say
that hearing your feedback
has been a huge blessing. I
hope in these newsletters
you can see my passion for
the work that is being done
here.
I have a request for you
all. If you would like me to
write about a particular
topic in my next newsletter;
for example the culture, my
teammates, the church,
etc. I would be more than
happy to write about it.
The Mission Work
CPR and Barista Training
MUR staff and the Los
AIMers, took a thirteen
hour long intensive CPR
and first responder
training. We began by
learning basic anatomy. I
found out that most of the
names for human
anatomy are based off
Latin roots. So many
medical terms were easily
recognizable in Spanish.
We also learned how to tie
bandages around a
wound and how to
respond to someone who
is in a critical condition.
I am now CPR and first
responder certified!!
(At least in Honduras).
The Church here is
growing. We are getting
close to a hundred people
in attendance on
Sunday’s. Oh in case I
you did not know, Sunday
service takes place at
three in the afternoon.
This is an attempt to reach
out to the students who
have classes in the
morning.
My teammates and I are
growing closer as we work
together to share the
gospel.
Donna Waldron said that
when she saw us interacting
with the people at the coffee
shop, she could tell that it is
“our element.” I take that as a
huge compliment. We trained
for eight months in Lubbock
to share the gospel. Now, we
are actually doing it!!
Because of our Bible studies,
the owner of La Taza has
asked for a Bible Study. He
does not speak English but
you can tell he is trying to
listen during the studies.
Praise God!!
Two weeks after the CRP
training, the Los AIMers
began a three day
instruction on how to be a
barista. The owners of La
Taza: Eddy and Desiree,
taught us how to make
espressos, cappuccinos,
and americanos. Desiree
is the second best barista
in Honduras. And she
taught us! We also
learned about the
growing, roasting,
grinding, and different
brewing techniques for
coffee. All of this so we
can take over for them on
Saturday nights.
I am now a certified
Barista!!
(At least in Honduras).
The Final Brigade was in
the last week of July. I will

congregation on a river bank

there was a baptism after this
photo was taken.
We have now begun our
ministry rotations! What
that incorporates is the
Los AIMers working with
the church planting team
called CRESCO and the
school outreach program
called DESEO.
Our AIM team has been
divided into two groups.
Group one is Caleb,
Kristin, Adam and I. Group
two is Jami, Derric,
Matthew, and Rex.
Throughout the coming
weeks, group one will be
working with CRESCO
and group two with
DESEO.
Ministry Rotations
Bible Studies
This is a picture of the
Bibles we had ordered for
the coffee shop ministry. It
is really helpful to have a
bilingual Bible during Bible
studies because they can
understand the depth of
what the Bible is saying in
their own language.
Since I am in group one,
we are learning what the
church planting team
(CRESCO) does on a
weekly basis.
The men on the church
planting team are:
Aristedes Sanchez, Erick
Jimenez, Jeremias
Santos, and Juan Carlos.
They visit the surrounding
villages of Santa Rosa
where they are hoping to
or have already planted a
Church. They go door
knocking, house visiting,
and hold small training
events. They set the
framework for the Church
plant.
They also train Church
leaders and suggest that
some of the young men
attend the thorough
weeklong Bible course
called “Boot Camp.” It is
held once every two
months in the CREO
building.
The Mission Upreach
statement is “One Church
in each village, in this
generation.” We are
becoming a part of that
dream. The Lord’s hand is
in this Mission.
As a result of the weekly coffee shop Bible study, my team as a whole has had
over twelve Bible studies. One young man named Jonny speaks very good
English and we believe he is coming to close to committing his life to Christ!! His
sister, Mery, we girls have studied with. She speaks very little English but it has
been wonderful getting to know her. We stop by occasionally and visit where she
works with her mother at a clothes store.
Here is an interesting story, the girls and I were out and about in town and we met
a young man named Hamlet. He is a self taught English speaker and I would
consider him almost fluent. He asked us where we were from and we then invited
him to come that Saturday night to La Taza. He came!!
In all we have about eight who have been coming to La Taza. The girls and I
have studied with a young lady named Jenny who learned her English while she
went to University in Wisconsin. We have had four studies with her and we are
going through the book of Romans.
God has truly blessed our work here and we will continue to run the radio, TV, and
poster advertisements. Please pray that our studies lead to them accepting Christ!
The target is bilingual, single, young adults who wish to practice their English. We
will have a Bible study in English at a cafe called La Taza. The goal is after the
group Bible study to set up individual Bible studies. We will be broadcasting a
radio and television advertisement, as well as putting up posters and handing out
flyers in Santa Rosa. If you are familiar with “Let’s Start Talking” material our
process is similar except the emphasis is not teaching English, but helping them
practice their English while using the Bible.
It will take place every Saturday night beginning August the
service, the key to a successful newsletter is making it useful to your readers.
A great way to add useful content to this newsletter is to develop and write your
own articles, or to include a calendar of upcoming events or a special offer that
promotes a new product.
You can also research articles or find “filler” articles by accessing the World Wide
Web. You can write about a variety of topics, but try to keep your articles short.
Much of the content you put in your newsletter can also be used for your Web
site. Microsoft Word offers a simple way to convert your newsletter to a Web

I cannot believe it has
already been six weeks
since the start of the
Coffee Shop Ministry.
Since then my team has
had over twelve Bible
studies with several of the
individuals from the weekly
Saturday night Bible
Study. We have also
ordered bilingual Bibles,
(Spanish and English) to
bring to La Taza each
Saturday night. Two
people have asked for
Bibles.

home, thank you so much
for helping me come to
Honduras to help share
the gospel and gain the

Your kindness and

this possible.
If you or someone you

Two Saturday nights ago, a
young man named Jonny
spoke up and told us a story.
He has been setting up his
own business here in Santa
Rosa and he was ordering
furniture through a lady who
has the prisoners in prison
build her furniture. He went
with her one day and saw
how she treated them with
respect and kindness. He
said he saw Jesus in her and
that he wanted what she had.
We believe he is so close to
accepting the gospel.

This is a picture of the AIM team that is now in Jao Passoa, Brazil. These are four of my classmates from the 2013 AIM class. I have been given the opportunity to visit them and see their work this year during Christmas Break. I cannot wait to see them in December and I will be going with three of my teammates: Jami Fanning, Caleb Gossett, and Matthew Bridges.
