• Access to the courses is free, thus, academics & institutions are able to communicate with diverse people.

WHAT ARE THE DEVELOPMENTS OF MOOC’s?

Other paid-for services e.g. career services or tuition support services.

•By diversifying learning pathways MOOC’s may help to expand the opportunities for institutions to offer rounded developmental education.

•These developments are part of a change in attitude towards online spaces across our lives. They help us from:

banking & retail, media & publishing , to

online friendship & social networking

TECHNOLOGY USE

•Increased access to the web and new digital technologies have reshaped many areas of life from:

broadcasting & publishing tosocial relationsThe introduction of 3G & 4G networks increased mobile connections.

•Mobile connectivity devices e.g. tablets, smart phones, is increasing in emergency economies, including China.

TWO BROAD CATEGORIES:cMOOC- courses based more closely on the original ‘connectivist’ distributed peer learning model e.g. MOOC, connectivism & connective knowledge.

xMOOC- courses are structured around more conventional lecture formats e.g. Coursera, edX & Udacity.

MOOC’s I WOULD LIKE TO JOIN1. Coursera: offers over 300

courses from a range of subjects including Life Sciences and Biology (25 courses).

1. Futurelearn: it aims to deliver an engaging & entertaining learning experience & allows people to fit learning into and around their everyday lives.

•Enrolment on MOOC’s continues to grow as the number of courses & institutions offering xMOOC’s in particular has increased from 20000 to 60000 initial registrations.

MY FIELD OF INTEREST

•LIFE SCIENCE•Genetics is definitely a topic to pursue in MOOC’s because it is modern and it uses advanced technology to find out data and for data collection e.g. Gel electrophoresis & DNA profiling.
