Highlights
• Some highlights are more visible at certain levels.– reds and oranges are visible at levels
4, 5, 6 and 7, but invisible on darker shades.
Highlights
• Cool highlights:– Blue– Violet
• Absorb the light and appear darker than their level.
Highlights
• Warm Highlights– Copper– Golden
• Reflect the light and therefore appear lighter than their level.
Highlights
• Grey Hair easily absorbs Blue and Red highlights.
• This is why you must always use basic colors to naturally cover grey hair.
• Use warm tones to cover difficult grey hair.
Highlights
• Using lower volume Le Developer = Less intense highlights – since there is less lightening of the
natural pigments.
• Using higher volume Le Developer = More radiant highlights – since there is increased lightening of
the natural pigments.

retouched, use Color Instantané
High-Lift Blonde 11.2
• 11.2 creates maximum lightening levels with the use of higher volumes of peroxide (50 or 60) with no irritation to scalp.
• 11.2 is Neutral to Platinum • Can be mixed with any other shade when
higher lift is required or needed.
High-Lift Blonde 11.2
• Can be used with Reds or Ash• Use 11.2 instead of bleach in hair
color for better lift control• Use 11.2 with Amplifiers to create
infinite shade possibilities.
Grey Hair
• This is a mixture of hair with and without pigment
• The hair colorist must see if the hair is more or less 50% grey or if there are very grey areas in order to make a diagnosis.
• Use Le Developer 20 volume peroxide for darker shades
• Use Le Developer 30 volume on red and lighter shades.
Level Selection
• How to select the level of tint to use to achieve the approximate desired color
– Determine client’s hair level– Choose desired level and multiply it
by 2– Subtract client’s hair level to find
level of tint to use
Level Selection
• Example:– Desired Level = 6– Clients Level = 3
• Formula:Desired Level X 2 = (n) – Clients Level =
Teinture Level
6 X 2 = 12 – 3 = 9
9 is the level to use.

Troubleshooting
• Poor coverage of grey hair:– The mixture does not contain enough of, or
is completely lacking in, a Natural shade.– The chosen shade is too light and makes
the new growth look lighter than the lengths.
– The application method was not respected.– Development time was too short, minimum
45 minutes– Not enough product was used.
Troubleshooting
• Highlights will not take:– The successive color pull-through on already-
colored hair left the hair overly porous.– To solve this problem, use Color Instantané
and SuperPac.– Mastey After-color treatments processes
were not used.– Mastey at Home treatments were not used.– Hair needs pre-coloring or filling due to the
overly porous lengths.
Troubleshooting
• Color is too light:– The natural tone level was not
determined correctly.– The chosen shade is too light.– The peroxide volume is too strong.– The % color / peroxide was not correct.
There was too much peroxide.– The mixture calls for 1 dose of Teinture
for 1 of Le Developer peroxide.
Troubleshooting
• Color is too dark:– The chosen shade is too dark.– The peroxide volume is too weak.– The mixture was not correct; there
was not enough peroxide.
Troubleshooting
• New growth is too yellow when using 11. tones:– The shade chosen does not have enough of the
proper tone to neutralize the yellow.– The natural color is too dark for lightening in
one step.– Lengths and ends are ashy and make the new
growth look too yellow.– The development time was not long enough (45
minutes minimum).– The product was pulled through, creating over-
oxidized lengths.
Troubleshooting
• New growth turns ashy when using 11. tones:– The chosen shade contains tones
which are too strong for the tone level.– There is too much grey hair.– The fine hairs around the hairline were
not protected by a shorter development time.
Troubleshooting
• Ends turn ashy when using the 11. tones:– Super-lighteners are mixed with very high-
volume peroxide and should only be used on new growth.
– When they are applied to already lightened and thus porous lengths, the highlight turns ashy, since it no longer controls the lightening of natural hair.
– To refresh ends, use Color Instantané.
Troubleshooting
• Highlights are too intense on the new growth:– The Natural shade should have been
used in the mixture.– Pay close attention to fine hair around
the hairline, which calls for a shorter development time.
– The chosen shade is too light or too dark.– The peroxide used is too strong.
Troubleshooting
• Ends turn ashy:– Color was pulled through too rapidly.– The mixture was too cold and turned
ashy.– Lengths are too oxidized and the
nuance turned into a cool shade.
