Industry Waste Management Plans …2 •  Industry Waste Management Plans (IndWMPs) are the primary tools used in the waste sector to

facilitate cradle to cradle (holistic) management of waste streams in a manner that promotes job creation and SMME/Cooperative development.

•  The IndWMPs are based on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and circular economy •  Part 7 of the Act provides details on the legislative provisions regarding the IndWMPs •  The IndWMPs attempt to respond to most of the goals of the National Waste Management Strategy

followed towards the preparation of Industry WMPs as well as reviewing and approval by authorities, and includes description of the following: o  process for the preparation of Industry WMPs, including a discussion on responsibilities for the

o  listing possible contents of an Industry WMP;

o  a description of the consultation process that may be required during the preparation of Industry WMPs;

Discussion …2 v The Plans are part of a process of implementing the Extended

Producer Responsibility (EPR). v The consultation process, complexity of the sectors, and the time

required to develop the plans required that the extension be granted. v The extension of the timeframes didn’t result in any non-compliance

by the companies or sector involved. v It is mainly during the operation of the Plan where the manufacturers

who are not members of a Plan will be in non-compliance with legislation.
