Our lives are spent within a series of spaces. We have the opportunity as designers to positively impact the people around

us by creating unique, functional, and memorable spaces.

XYZRETAIL DESIGN

PROJECT DESCRIPTIONFor this project we were to design a retail space in Rome, Italy for an up and coming fashion designer. Our designer, Alessia Garofoli, creates shoes, handbags, sunglasses, and other small accessories. Her current line is titled XYZ .

XYZ is a positive brand image that represents a newfound lifestyle and identity. The showroom attracts the young, ambitious woman through the element of surprise. Upon arrival the customers will be entranced by the use of line, form, rhythm, and texture that come together to create a sculptural space, where simple forms evolve, intersect, and explode. XYZ offers a personalized shopping experience in which each woman feels connected with the designs, XYZ presents an environment that complements the merchandise, exhibiting each piece as a work of art. The complex geometries combined with the hard, strong materials unify the space and lay the groundwork for a stong brand identity.

CENTRAL CAMPUS STUDY

PROJECT DESCRIPTIONFor this project we were to research Richard Diebenkorn’s painting, Ocean Park No. 70 and create a sculpture that captured the concept and design elements illustrated in the painting. After developing a sculpture we were to design a cafe space in the existing Morrill Hall building on Iowa State University’s campus.

Upon entering Central Campus Study you will notice that the pathways lead you aroud a central sculptural partition. There are several different zones within the space that allow for everyone to have a unique experience. The materials and furniture resemble the diagonals and other geometries that are illustrated in the painting Ocean Park No. 70. Our design focuses on the layering, transparency, folding, and interlocking of shapes and spaces.

RESIDENCE

PROJECT DESCRIPTIONIn this project I was to create a space for a 60 year old widow who is moving from Connecticut to Florida and has just recently been diagnosed with MS. She would like to blend her old belongings with a new modern style. She also is an avid reader and has an extensive book collection.

In my design I combined traditional architecture with modern pieces and colors to give the space a fresh, updated look.

GUSTAFSON CLASSICAL RESIDENCE

PROJECT DESCRIPTIONEric and Ana Gustafson are moving into the Locust Hills neighborhood in Wayzata, MN. As their interior designers our challenge was to design a space that reflects their diverse interests while appearing unified. The couple also likes to entertain and requested that their home features an open concept kitchen, living, and dining space. Eric’s mother, Elsa will be staying with the couple for 6 months to a year so it will be necessary for her to have her own space.

As designers, we wanted to provide the Gustafson’s with a timeless space by developing a design that incorporated Classical Greek and Roman elements. Overall the space is both intimate and luxurious as well as suitable for entertaining guests.
