MD-MT877/MD-MT877C
The unit may have the following symptoms while recording or editing. The unit is not out of order.
MiniDisc System Limitations
SYMPTOM
“DISC FULL” or “TOC FULL” appearseven though the MiniDisc still has re-cording time left.
The remaining recording time does notincrease even though you erased tracks.
The total of the recorded time and theremaining time does not match the maxi-mum recordable time.
Combine function does not work.
Sound skips in fast reverse/forward.
A track number is created in the middleof a track.
LIMITATIONS
More than 255 tracks (maximum) cannot be recorded regardless of the re-cording time.If the MiniDisc is recorded or edited repeatedly or if it has scratches (record-ing skips scratched parts), you may not be able to record the maximumtracks above.
The unit does not count non-recorded portions that last 12 or fewer secondsto display the remaining recording time. The time may not increase even ifyou erase short tracks.
One cluster (approximately 2 seconds) is the minimum unit for recording. For example, a 3-second track uses 2 clusters (approximately 4 seconds). Therefore, the actual recordable time may be shorter than the displayedtime.
A MiniDisc on which recording and editing are repeated may not allow thecombine function.
One track is divided and recorded in separate places on a repeatedly re-corded or edited MiniDisc.Sound may skip.
A track number may be created if there are scratches or dust on the MiniDisc.
TroubleshootingMany potential “problems” can be resolved by the owner without calling a service technician. If something seems to be wrong with this product, check the following before calling your authorized SHARP dealer orservice center.
The unit does notturn on.
No sound isheard from theearphones.
When the opera-tion buttons arepressed, the unitdoes not respond.
Some soundsare skipped.
● Is the AC adaptor disconnected?● Is the battery exhausted?● Is the unit in the hold mode?● Has condensation formed inside the
unit?● Is the unit being influenced by me-
chanical shock or by static electric-ity?
● Is the volume set too low?● Is the remote control unit or the ear-
phones plugged in?● Are you trying to play a MiniDisc with
data on it instead of a MiniDisc contain-ing music?
● Is the unit in the hold mode?● Is the battery exhausted?● Is the remote control unit plug or the
earphones plug inserted firmly?
● Is the battery exhausted?● Is the unit being subjected to exces-
sive vibration?
● Has the track number or characterinformation been updated on thedisc yet?
● Is the unit in the recording or edit-ing mode?
● Is the MiniDisc protected againstaccidental erasure?
● Is the unit connected properly to theother equipment?
● Is the AC adaptor unplugged or did apower failure occur while recording orediting?
● Is the unit in the hold mode?● Is an optical signal being output from
the stereo system?Read the operation manual for thestereo system.
● Is the select switch for charging/operation set on the charging side?
● Is the jack clean?
● Is the remote control display set to“LIGHT OFF”?
The MiniDisc can-not be ejected.

NOTES ON SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM
• Resistor:To differentiate the units of resistors, such symbol as K andM are used: the symbol K means 1000 ohm and the symbolM means 1000 kohm and the resistor without any symbol isohm-type resistor. Besides, the one with “Fusible” is a fusetype.
• Capacitor:To indicate the unit of capacitor, a symbol P is used: thissymbol P means pico-farad and the unit of the capacitorwithout such a symbol is microfarad. As to electrolyticcapacitor, the expression “capacitance/withstand voltage” isused.(CH), (TH), (RH), (UJ): Temperature compensation(ML): Mylar type
• The indicated voltage in each section is the one measuredby Digital Multimeter between such a section and the chas-sis with no signal given.
• Parts marked with “ ” ( ) are important formaintaining the safety of the set. Be sure to replace theseparts with specified ones for maintaining the safety andperformance of the set.

No
Check whether the audio signal line between IC701 and J701 isdefective.
Is audio waveform observed on the pins 10 and 12 of IC701 ?
Yes
Check whether input waveform is observed on the pins 5and 6 of IC701.
Yes
Check voltage of pins 57 and 58 of IC201, pins 2, 3, 6, and 7 ofIC651, pins 4 and 5 of CN601. Check whether disc is record-inhibited.
Does the RF waveform appear at TP201 when recording/Playback is performed.
Check whether the pin 7 of IC501 and the pin 81 of IC201 are inH state.
Yes
Yes
Is the output waveform output to the pin 8 of IC501 ?
Change MSL from 00H to 80H by the control setting of EEPROM. After completing the operation, return in to 00H.
Insert a low reflection disc, and ascertain audio output by normal playback, and then set TEST REC mode.
