The College, named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), was established in 1969 and named in 1970, with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn commu-nity. The College is committed to the fulfillment of this mandate. The mission of Medgar Evers College is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education. The College has a commitment to students who desire self-improvement, a sound education, an opportunity to develop a personal value system, and an opportunity to gain maximum benefits from life experience and from their environment.
Located in the center of the historic Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, Medgar Evers College is at the heart of an ever-changing cultural land-scape. The College is just a stone’s throw away from the Beautiful Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the art-filled halls of the Brooklyn Museum, the historic central branch of the Brooklyn Public Library and the lush acres of Prospect Park. The vibrancy of New York City life offers our students a range of experiences, both professional and personal, beyond the campus environs.
