Dear SOCFC Team,
I was reflecting on the importance of relationship-based work with children, after reading about a new book just published by Dr. Dan Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson called The Power of Showing Up.
Dr. Siegel is an internationally known expert who has studied family interactions with an emphasis on how attachment experiences in childhood influence emotions and behavior. I was fortunate to attend a training with him in UCLA and some of you long-time EHS staff may recall hearing him speak in Bend.
I thought you might appreciate listening to Dr. Siegel talk about his new book about how adults can use his framework to promote secure attachment and the development of resilience and an internal compass in children. Such important work we do every day!
You can listen to the talk here.
With appreciation,
Blair

Immunization Exclusion Day is coming!
February 19, 2020!!
What is exclusion day?
Oregon State law says that any child that is not up to date, or exempt
from immunizations by 2/19/20 they will not be able to be in class. The
child will need to either be vaccinated or the exemption video module will
need to be completed before the child can return to class.
Why exclusion day?
Immunizations are meant to protect our children from preventable
diseases. Vaccines not only protect the child receiving them, but also
those that are unable to receive them for medical reasons.
I don’t vaccinate my children, now what?
Vaccinating or not is your choice, and we respect that! For children that
do not get vaccinated, Oregon law requires an exemption be on file. Complete the exemption by watching a series of videos on
www.healthoregon.org/vaccineexemption, print out the certificate at the end of the video series and turn into your
Specialist or Family Advocate at your center.
On a delayed vaccine schedule?
If the state shows that your child is past due for an immunization, you can ask your doctor to fill out an exemption certificate for
you or you can complete the exemption video modules. Then you will follow-up and get the immunization when your doctor
recommends.
