The Stages of a Butterfly: Metamorphosis
• Metamorphosis means change in shape (in Greek)
• Other insects that have complete metamorphosis like Butterflies are moths, beetles, flies and bees.
• There are four stages:1. Egg2. Larva3. Pupa 4. Adult
Egg
• Eggs are laid on plants in the spring, summer or fall.
Larva: Caterpillar• The feeding stage!• Can grow 100 times their size!
Pupa• The transition stage• The caterpillar is full grown and stops eating• Sleeps in protected cocoon of silk
Adult• They can now lay eggs and the cycle starts over.
