MESI BONDYE MESITo My Dear Mercy Family,
0is past June, the Mercy Life Teen Group (www.lifeteen.com) took our first ever Mission Trip to the Life Teen Mission Base in Madian, Haiti. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for helping us get there and for your prayers and support which were truly eGcacious in our lives and in the lives of the incredible Haitian people we encountered.
0e Life Teen Mission Base, also called the St. John Paul II Center for the New Evangelization, has been active in serving the people of Haiti for 6 years. When the devastating earthquake struck the island in January of 2010, Life Teen International sent multiple mission groups to the country to aid in the rebuilding eUorts, and one fact quickly became clear - the people of Haiti, especially the teens, were hungry for Jesus Christ. At that time, no Catholic Youth Ministry existed in Haiti. AZer an earnest appeal to Life Teen from the Bishop of Haiti, the St. John Paul II Center for the New Evangelization was founded.
0is Mission Trip was diUerent from others. We received the opportunity to not just meet the physical needs of our Haitian brothers and sisters, but also their spiritual needs. Each day was a new adventure filled with Eucharistic - prayer, hard work, lots of laughter, and an abundance of joy.
A few highlights of our trip were: getting to visit families and play with the kids in villages near the mission base; learning their culture and language; and studying Scripture with them. We had the opportunity to spend 4 hours of prayer and silence in the Haitian Mountain tops, an experience that rejuvenated and inspired us from the inside out.
But by far one of the most impactful moments was visiting a community called Azel. Azel houses the poorest of the poor, and the sickest of the sick. Among other experiences in Azel, we had the chance to visit with a woman named Mari-Louise who had no family, was paralyzed and an amputee, yet whose favorite form of prayer was to sing praise to God. We comforted and prayed with a grieving father whose only child was terminally ill; and bathed a dying man, helping him receive the dignity of being loved, especially in his last precious living moments. At Azel we received the unexpected giZ of seeing what a true hope and steadfast faith in Jesus really looks like.
0e lessons of living in the present moment, loving those in front of you, being present to each other, and always being in communication with God, is a lesson not just leZ in Haiti, but one that we’ve carried back with us in our hearts to our home in Louisiana. 0is is the giZ of Haiti to us. We are fully alive because our life is in Christ. 0ank you again to everyone who helped us get there, especially Chefs Jesse Romero and Kelley McCann who provided a successful and delicious benefit dinner which helped defray the costs of this life-changing experience!
If you would like to experience this life fully alive, and become involved in Youth Ministry, I encourage you to reach out to the Life Teen Team!
Joyfully yours in Christ Jesus, Amelia Gallagher Youth Minister amelia.gallagher@olomchurch.com “If I were the sky, I’d give you a star, but I’m not the sky, so I’ll give you my heart” Song of Mari-Louise.

Altar Flowers MemorialEach week you may honor a loved one with a giI of $150 to dedicate the floral arrangement that adorns our Sanctuary.
Memorial GiftsAt the death of a loved one, many choose in lieu of flowers to encourage friends and family to make a donation to a special charity or cause. Our Lady of Mercy has nourished the spiritual life of so many parishioners and those throughout the Diocese who come here. A Memorial GiI to our Traditions for Tomorrow Building Campaign is a wonderful way to acknowledge the lives of our beloved dead with a giI of loving generosity to the church that has been such a spiritual home. Ms. Deanie Smith can discuss ways for you to remember your loved one.Consider adding a planned giI in your last will and testament to remember Our Lady of Mercy.

IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO PLEDGE!Father Cleo and the Capital Campaign Committee have challenged everyone to consider making a sacrificial giD for the success of our campaign. And in response, our giDs have come in all shapes and sizes, with families making giDs from $100 up to $500,000. We have asked each family to consider a pledge of $5,000 or more payable over 3 years, although we encourage all participants to give what you can. As you may remember our Campaign is being conducted on the basis of “equal sacrifice, not equal giDs.” A giD of $5,000 over three years is just $125 a month, with a ten percent down payment! Please know we are grateful for whatever you are able to do. Below are some giD plans to consider:
Total Payment
10% Down Payment
3 Annual Payments
12 Quarterly Payments
36 Monthly Payments
Daily Sacrifice
$25,000 $2,500 $7,500 $1,875 $625 $20.55
$10,000 $1,000 $3,000 $750 $250 $8.22
$5,000 $500 $1,500 $375 $125 $4.11
$2,500 $250 $750 $187.50 $62.50 $2.05
EVERY GIFT OF EVERY SIZE IS NEEDED AND APPRECIATED!
“Now is the time to take care of what is ours, to meet the needs of our parishioners at every stage in their life, and to continue to be a place of welcoming for all in Baton Rouge.”
Thank You For Your Generosity!]ank you to the families who have responded so generously to our campaign! It is only through everybody doing what they are able, we will be successful!
