MICRO VERTEX DETECTORZEUS experiment at DESY (HAMBURG)
PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS:•Design and production of a silicon Micro Vertex Detector (MVD) for the ZEUS experiment at the HERA accelerator in DESY (Hamburg). With this new detector the positions of the charged particles, which are produced by the electron-proton collisions, will be measured with extremely high precision (10 micron).

NIKHEF SUPPORT:•Design and production of the silicon detector support structures.•Assembly and precise geometrical measurement of the complete detector. •Design and test of the cooling system for the readout electronics
IMPORTANT DESIGN REQUIREMENTS:•Extreme light and stiff construction to achieve:
• high position accuracy (5-10 micron) • low radiation length, such that the trajectory of particles is hardly disturbed
•These requirements results in using high-tech materials and construction methods.
