INTRODUCTION...
Pollution of environment. Alarming raise in global
warming. Causes : Green-House gases. Depletion of natural source of
energy. Need of alternate solutions. The MICROALGAE LAMP seems
to be an promising future rescue.
Cont...
o The concept has been developed by Dr. Pierre Calleja, biochemist based from France.
o He has been studying about these algae for over two decades.
o MICROALGAE : Single celled algae.
ABOUT MICROALGAE LAMP...
o Not only produces light, but consumes CO2.o A Microalgae lamp can consume 1 ton CO2 in just about
1 year, where as a tree does it in its whole lifetime.o Produces light and cleans the air.
CONSTRUCTION...o It consist of tube
algae-filled water. o Light and battery
arrangements.o Algae cultivation
chamber.o Water and CO2
inlet.o Oxygen vent.
WORKING PROCEDURE...
o Algae produces energy through photosynthesis by combining sunlight, H2O, and CO2.
o That light energy is converted into chemical energy and stored as bonds of sugars (Carbohydrates).
o This process takes place in the chloroplasts.o Water is split into oxygen, protons and electrons in
presence of sunlight.o Synthesizing of sugars occurs and exited electrons
generate the tiny electrical current.
SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM...
CONT...
o The microalgae lamp produces a friendly byproduct i.e. OXYGEN.
o The energy is processed and undertaken through various tests.
a. Ratio Test b. Chlorophyll Test c. Type Test d. Composition Test
CONT...o After going through certain processes we obtain a
fine rich green coloured syrup type algae solution.o The solution is added to water in a canister which
is connected to the batteries for storage of that energy.
ROLE OF ALGAE...
CONT...
WIDE RELIABIITY...
o Availability of resources.
o Process of setup and production.
o Additionally, the harvested algae could be used as fertilizer or processed as biofuel.
CAN BE USED...
AN EXAMPLE : LATRO
• In 2010, scientists from Yansei and Stanford University pioneered a technique by where 30-nanometre wide gold electrodes were inserted into the photosynthesising organs – chloroplasts – of algal cells, thus managing to draw a small electrical current from algae during photosynthesis.
LATRO...
ADVANTAGES...
Renewable Eco-friendly Fixes carbon Omnipresent Solves 2 major social
problems a. Power necessity b. Checks global warming
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT...• Its prototype has been already developed and
installed at FERMENTALG COMPANY’S parking lot at BORDEAUX, FRANCE.
CONCLUSION AND FUTURE SCOPE...
• These form have a stylish and futuristic vibe.• These microalgae can produce up to 100x more
biofuel than comparable energy crops.• Can be used almost everywhere like streets,
shops, gardens, parking yards etc.• Great asset for our future generation.
