Mission Statement:
“The Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce works to represent and advance the Oak Lawn business com-
munity, striving with constant integrity, fairness and cooperation to promote and improve the eco-
nomic atmosphere, business climate and image of Oak Lawn.”
On Wednesday, July 12th the Chamber will hold it’s an-nual Golf Outing at Stony Creek Golf Course, 5850 W. 103rd Street. The Golf Outing is the Chamber’s largest fundraiser. Our sincere thanks to this year’s Major Spon-
sor, Oak Lawn Bank & Trust
The fee of $125 per person includes 18 holes of golf, lunch, dinner and drinks. Other packages include $80 for golf or $55 for dinner only. The Chamber will offer minia-ture golf beginning at 4:00 p.m. The cost is $70 per per-
son for miniature golf and dinner or $15 for golf only.
“We are pleased that we can continue to offer Chambers members, business colleagues and their friends a chance to network while they enjoy a leisurely round of golf on our beautiful community course,” says Anne Marie Casey, owner of Annie’s, and Chairperson of this year’s outing. “The Oak Lawn Chamber outing has remained one of the most affordable outings in the area, making it an attractive
event for everyone.”
Golf registration begins at 11:00 AM, followed by lunch at 11:30 AM and a shot-gun start at 12:30 PM. An open bar will begin at 5:15 PM. followed by a buffet dinner. Ad-vanced reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-

President’s Message
Networking. We all need to do it but how do we know if we are doing it effective-ly. How do you measure the effective-ness of networking? Most of you are probably thinking “dollars in the door.” And yes, that’s the outcome you hope to achieve but the reality is that if you attend Chamber networking events with the idea that you are going to sell to
the people there, you’re doing it wrong. If that’s your plan, just to sell to other Chamber members, in about six months you’ll begin to question the value of your Chamber member-ship. You’ll stop attending luncheons and after hours. Eventually, you won’t renew your membership. That circle of people will be dried up and you’ll move on to the next Chamber of Commerce, destined to repeat that cycle. Networking is not a short game. Networking has to be thought about in the long run. I would contend that networking isn’t about selling. I know, BLASH-PHEMY! But, hear me out. Networking in the Chamber is about getting to know people. I’ve been a member of the Chamber for over eleven years and I can tell you, those people who focus on getting to know people and those peo-ple who get involved on Chamber committees, tend to do better in business in regards to sales. They connect on a personal level and then, the magic happens. The mag-ic… REFERRALS! I’m with a group of non-chamber friends and someone men-tions they are thinking about switching banks. I’m going to tell them that I’m on the board with Kathleen Farrell (Oak Lawn Bank & Trust), Vicki Scanlon (Providence Bank), and Peggy Burke (First American Bank) and that they should talk with them. I give referrals of those people I’ve gotten to know and who have taken the time to get to know me. Get active. Meet people. Get to know them. Get referrals.
