What is Google Docs?

• Google Docs is an online productivity software bundle that is free to the public.

• Must have a Google account– Sign up by:

Equipment / Media Needed

• Google Account– http://docs.google.com

• Applications– Office/Works/Word Pad can be used to create/edit any

document created in Google Docs, however, all creation/editing can occur completely online.

– Firefox/Internet Explorer/Safari

• High Speed Internet Connection preferable

• Begin simple• Create things that will affect the most

students possible

• Students will:– Work collaboratively on a research paper– Work collaboratively on a presentation– Work collaboratively on a spreadsheet

• Use Google Doc in Another File:– Import/Export to Office

• Sample Assignments:– Each group member writes a separate section of a research

paper to create a whole product– Group creates a presentation to show in class– Group project that requires each member to utilize a shared

budget sheet as a spreadsheet

Creating Documents

• You can type a new Word document, PowerPoint presentation, or

Excel spreadsheet.

Sharing Documents

• Share your work for others to

view, edit, or use.• Share you work to collaborate

with others

Importing Documents

• Upload is found on the main Google Docs screen or within a chosen document type.

• Complete the upload process as you would adding an attachment to an email.

Exporting Documents

• Need to have your document when there isn’t Internet access?

• Forms can also be created using Google Docs.• Allows for user to complete the form and the

results are sent a Google Spreadsheet to compile and review

Creating Forms

• Clicking on “Add Form” lets you select types of questions and compiles answers into a spreadsheet.

Sharing Forms

• When you choose to share a form, a link is created.

• You can email the link to others or you can create a TinyURL quick link that can be remembered and easily used.

Assignment

• Create a document, share the document to the person sitting next to you, add to the document that was share to you.

• Create a form, create a TinyURL, give the URL to the person sitting next to you to complete.
