46 years ago today Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in

Memphis, Tennessee while speaking at a protest by the Memphis

Sanitation Union. It was his vision to unite the labor and civil rights

movements and work towards eradicating poverty in America.

The speech worked. The Memphis Sanitation Union received a ten

cent raise.

Hopefully these newspaper headlines shine a light on his legacy.

superficial articles published today about

King’s legacy. Very few will address the

context of his life.
