Through our mobile research and survey app, we've found out the most popular activities families participate in during Thanksgiving. Family came in as the most important, right before shopping. We also found that families have several Thanksgiving meals throughout the day and that turkey is consumed for lunch, dinner and even breakfast!

We used mobile technology to survey 250 mothers with children at home and asked them:

“What activities are part of yourhousehold’s Thanksgiving

celebration / participation? Choose all that apply.”

Family trumps both food and shopping at Thanksgiving.

89% of moms said family visits are part of their Thanksgiving celebration.

What’s more, it is estimated that 39 million people will travel

this year alone. So, who are you going to visit this year?1

‘Tis the season for doorbuster deals and the busiest,

most profitable time of year for retailers. 68% of moms surveyed said

shopping was a Thanksgiving activity in their family. The

average household will spend $302. 1

Watching football on Thanksgiving became a tradition that

was established in Detroit when the Lions played the Bears in 1934.

Nowadays, 67% of families families in our study

watch football over the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Have a Special Evening Meal4

Cooking all day is definitely worth it when you sit down at the table for

a huge feast. Actually, 66% of families in our survey will sit down

for a special evening meal to celebrate. Families spend

an average of $54.18 on Thanksgiving dinner.1

It’s inevitable to feel tired after a large meal.

In fact, 64% of moms in our survey say nap time

is a part of their household’s Thanksgiving.

6 Watch the Macy’sThanksgiving Day Parade

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has been an American tradition since 1924

and now 54% of moms say they watch the parade either on television or

in person. Actually, approximately 3.5 million New Yorkers

watch the parade live from the streets.

Thanksgiving meals are served throughout the day. 52% of moms in our

study say a special lunch is part of Thanksgiving, which is included

in the total amount that Americans spend on Thanksgiving food —

$2.4 Million! 1

Deck the halls! Thanksgiving kicks off the holiday

season. 45% of moms surveyed decorate for

Christmas as part of their Thanksgiving celebration.

Weather permitting, some families get active on

Thanksgiving — 37% spend time outdoors.

Turkey isn’t served just for lunch and dinner, 25% of families prepare a

special breakfast as part of their tradition. We wouldn’t be surprised if some

of those breakfasts included fried turkey! After all, a total number of

51 Million turkeys are consumed on Thanksgiving Day. 1

Giving back is an opportunity to do

something good for the community.

On Thanksgiving, 4% of

moms say their families volunteer

for the holiday, such as serving food at a

homeless shelter or delivering meals, just to name a few.
