The Case of 3D.Tales from a Hopeless Classroom
The Case of 3D.Tales from a hopelessClassroom• 216 pageshardcover illustrations: BIANCA CHIABRANDO
13-year old Bianca lives in Milan and is in her third year of middle school. One day she comes across a copy of Psychopathology of Everyday Life by Sigmund Freud in her mum’s bedroom. She reads it and has a brainwave: when she grows up she wants to be a psychologist! She has the feeling that she’ll have to study loads, keep notes, delve deep; but there is no need to wait as she already has everything necessary to put her skills of observation to the test and begin her career, as a… professional! Her patients are all around her, the very ones who have brought three quarters of the teaching staff to the verge of a nervous break-down, make the caretakers despair and are every supply teacher’s nightmare. Her classmates, the students of 3D.
In the same league as Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Patterson’s Middle School series, a cutting edge novel that successfully captures the psycho-logy of the classroom!
The rule of 3D: if you’re in this class, you have to be naughty.

"As suggested by ottavia Bruno's wonderful cover illustration the two main character are divided by a stretch of blue sea and they mirror each other. [...] The journey on the boat Vlora through the eyes of a child is the most evocative part of the book." Andersen
MArIo deSIATI was born in Puglia, Italy, in 1977.After graduating with a Law degree, he began working for magazines, national daily newspapers, and leading publishers. he writes numerous essays, poems, and novels. The Sugar Sea is his first book for younger readers. his works are published in Germany and the netherlands.
Mario Desiati
The Sugar Sea
For Ervin the sea is a friend he uses to play with. But when Ervin looks at the sea he also dreams of leaving Albania to go to Italy, the country where everyone sings and is happy, as he sees on television. So, when the Vlora, “the sugar ship”, is hijacked by over twenty thousand Albanians and sets sail for Puglia, on the 7th August 1991, Ervin leaves, wearing only his swimsuit. For Luca the sea reminds him of missed games of football on the beach and the loneliness of holidays at Torre Canne drawing imaginary friends, waiting for his beloved uncle Antuono. But when Luca looks at the sea he also feels the dan-ger in it…One look was enough to see in each other’s eyes the same desire for freedom that lead two boys on an adventure that lasts just one night, an adventure of hand signals, dust, and stolen doughnuts. As words are not needed to make friends.
A touching story that tells the drama of thousands of people who leave their home, facing inhuman journeys, in the search for a better future
“Their eyes […] experience the same mysterious spark of complicity.
They are two twelve-year-olds on the run.
Ervin is naked, Luca is clothed.
Both are terrified.
They wanted freedom and they took it: and now what are they going to do with it?”

Among the blue houses of a small South African village, a grandmother starts to tell the story of a child called Nelson Mandela, who is known in the village as “the boy who shook trees” because he’s always getting up to mischief. It’s right here in the village of Qunu that his story began. To the rhythm of a grandmother’s voice the story of Madiba – the most beloved man in Africa – comes to life. His roots, his favourite fairy-tales, and the breath-taking games he played in the African countryside. This book tells us about the childhood and adolescence of Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s first coloured president, the man who put a stop to apartheid, the activist who served 27 years in prison for a dream of equality and freedom.
once upon a time there was a young boy called Madiba, a child who became a great man

Malala. The Story
malala. The sTory• 184 pageshardcover w/jacket illustrations: PAOLO D'ALTAN
In 2009, at just eleven years old, Malala Yousafzai started to write a diary for BBC Urdu under a pseudonym. She wrote about her daily life, the violence of the Tale-ban, and the injustices she and her school companions suffered as young girls. Then came the direct threats and, in the end, the attack. When she was fifteen, Malala received a gunshot to the head by a member of the Taliban. Her only crime was fighting for the right to education for girls. After the episode she moved to England with her parents. Thanks to her, many young girls are no longer afraid.
A novel telling the story of Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl who has won the nobel Peace Prize in 2014
“Every girl in Swat is Malala.
We will educate ourselves.
We will win. They can’t defeat us.”
Classmates of Malala
“The writing is clear and effective. The style reminds Malala’s blog that focuses on the difficulties, the suffering and the determination to hold on of Malala, a protagonist of her time. The final impression is that […] this is a reading addressed to children but recommended also to many grown-ups.”La Stampa
An extraordinary story told with an immediate and passionate voice and the accuracy of the documentary.
A brilliant example of the bravery of childood against the silence of grown-ups.

Gods and Heroes of Olympus
An old aoidos sits down amongst the children to tell a story, and the ancient Greek myths come to life. The young listeners hold their breath at the story of the pow-erful arms of Heracles, who strangles the lion’s roar. They are thrilled at the birth of Apollo, whose wails are mixed with the cries of seagulls, white flying flowers. They weep when Arachne is transmuted into an insect because she dared to chal-lenge the goddess Athena in the art of weaving. They depart for far-flung, legen-dary lands with Theseus, fly in the sky with Daedalus and Icarus, tremble with fear with Perseus before the terrible Medusa. And they embark on the endless journey of growth accompanied by the eternal and fascinating story of Odysseus.
Through the pen of one of the Italian most refined writers, mythology becomes an adventureand poetry for all ages
“Playfulness, physicality and verse: the features of this extremely attractive book for children.” TuttoLibri - La Stampa
“And the tales come to life in a fantastic atmosphere enchanting young and grown-up listeners, or even readers. (…) A clear and simple language yet strongly imaginative which makes myths jump out the pages as powerful and vivid characters with their epic accomplishments and their human feelings.” Andersen

Mahmud is 9 and has an unbridled passion for surfing. The waves of GazaCity are not honkers like those in Hawaii, but you can ride them, even with a wood-en toilet seat. And because, as his mother says, the sea is the only land where you can feel free, in a city targeted by daily bombings, where children play at guessing the tank models on the streets. But when a real surfer arrives on the beach with real surfboards, Mahumd finds a mentor to teach him the secrets of the sea. And that’s not all. There’s another pupil, Samir, an Israeli boy with whom Mahmud shouldn’t even speak. Yet he discovers they have the same dreams and are waiting for the same wave! And it doesn’t matter whether that wave is Israeli or Palestinian.

During the Age of Storms, a terrible calamity opened a chasm between the is-lands of Albion (modern-day England) and Caledonya (now known as Scot-land). Since then, they have been divided by a rough stretch of water. Albion is an industrious land while Caledonya is an impassable land inhabited by fantastic creatures and wild nature. It is a very rich country and has always been targeted by Albion’s formidable navy and its attempts to conquer its lands. However Cal-edonya is protected by the Magic that is refined in the Academy of Magicians on the tiny island of Stormwall, to the extreme north. Ysall is the youngest daughter of humble Caledonyan farmers and when two Magician scouts come to look for her, everyone thinks it is a mistake. But Ysall astoundingly passes the magic test and so wins a place in the Academy, where no girl had ever been admitted before. The journey to the magical island is long and full of ravenous wolves, kidnappers sent by a strange individual with a sil-ver earring, and enchanted woods. While the war between Caledonya and Albion looms, Ysall sets sail for the Academy, where she will have to fight against prej-udices, hostile fellow students, and dark intrigues. Luckily she will have Logan, a young magician who makes her heart beat in a new way…Her adventure is only just starting. Ysall raises her eyes above the prow of the sailing ship where the mists thin out and catches sight of the huge outline of a dragon, the Island of Stormwall.

Dragon Girl
Sofia knows that nobody adopts a thirteen-year-old. Life in the orphanage is dreary and monotonous, until one day an anthropology professor adopts her and takes her away. He reveals to her that the mole on her forehead is a sign that in her dwells the spirit of the dragon Thuban. Three thousand years ago this pow-erful creature defeated Nidhoggr, the treacherous wyvern who sought to de-stroy the Tree of the World and alter the balance of Nature forever. Thuban im-prisoned him in the bowls of the Earth, but the seal holding him in has grown weak with time. Feeding on men’s rage and stupidity, and making use of fero-cious emissaries, Nidhoggr is on the verge of returning. It’s up to Sofia and the other chosen ones to stop him in the final battle. Sofia, the girl with the dragon spirit, must believe in her gift.

There is a place where unreceived letters, lost presents, and unsaid words end up. There are eyes that can read the wind and hearts that can fly. “What rub-bish!” Greta would immediately declare. Thirteen years old with a racing bike on hand to speed off on as soon as anyone starts talking about love. Like her class-mate Lucia, who seems to think of nothing else, or Emma, who knows everything about. Greta does not believe in love... that is until she meets Anselmo. Seven-teen years old, as beautiful as an angel, as mysterious as the packages he de-livers around Rome on his bike. To discover his secret, the three girls land at a do-it-yourself bike repair centre where miraculous things happen. Here they dis-cover that Anselmo can read the future. Written in the wind with weaves of light. But when his eyes meet Greta’s, everything disappears. In the darkness of the greatest mystery that is love.

Luce has discovered that she belongs to the ancient lineage of the Lyliums, who lived in communion with nature, and that she has to save the geomantic grid that protects the equilibrium of the Earth. Meanwhile, though, kendra, the handsome boy she encountered in the Grotto of Whispers, has been kidnapped by the evil Incarnators. Who has betrayed him handing him over to the enemy? In order to find out, Luce must penetrate the secret hideout where kendra is locked up and she must do it quickly: another geomantic knot is about to vanish, and it’s the one situated on the Giant’s Path along the Northern Irish coast. An old legend tells the tale of a fierce Irish giant who built a footpath in the sea to reach his Scot-tish enemy. Will Luce accomplish her mission?

At Forest School there’s a real buzz: today everyone is off to a fairground! The bus fails to set off because it’s bro-ken down. The little cubs burst out cry-ing desperately, but the teacher has an idea: why not make the fairground at school? Guaranteed fun for all!
