A Celebration- ―Paving the Way‖
Exegesis, Exegete, and hermeneutics are just a few of those big, hairy hundred
dollar seminary words most pastors never use again outside of the seminary
classroom. In short, future pastors are taught a variety of critical disciplines to
think theologically and interpret the Scriptures. On the flip side, as a pastor one
spends most of their time continuously learning, interpreting, and understanding
i) their local community, ii) their church’s history, iii) and their members. In
fact, one of the greatest joys of being the pastor at FMCC is having the opportunity to know each of you
more and the history of the church.
Although I knew we were a well-established and older congregation, I discovered that we have a sizable
group who are nonagenarian. In fact, we have 12 people in our congregation who are 90 and above. It is
amazing to see a handful of them who still attend worship, Mr. Tom C. who still attends weekly Sunday
School, Paul M. serves as deacon, Fred D. a recent trustee, and until recently, Mary Helen, Deloris, Marie
& Ruth M. were a part of our weekly Sonshine Card Club, and others who are active in other areas. It is a
true testimony to see members still faithfully serving God.
While the next year we want to intentionally grow our church by gaining younger generations and more
year-round residents, I want to first acknowledge, thank, and celebrate with those of you who have
faithfully walked the Christian journey for so long. You have paved the way for so many of us as you
have followed the Risen Christ. If I have not told you personally, it is a pure joy to be your pastor and I
pray to be as faithful like you throughout my life. Others who might not quite be a nonagenarian, but also
in your upper years, you all also make me smile. It is a true honor to put my ministerial robe on each
Sunday and to be called your pastor throughout the week. (And not just a ―nice, young kid‖).
Everyone will want to mark their calendar, because you will not want to miss our June Potluck which we
will have a Birthday Celebration for all members who are nonagenarians. Not only do we hope to see
many of our nonagenarians attend, but also encourage you to bring any friends or family on Sunday, June
14. Since Judy C. and Karen B. are organizing this special Sunday, I know we have lots to look forward
to, from old-time music to delicious cake.
In Christ,
Zach

WEEKLY SERMON SCHEDULE 6.7 Mirror, Mirror on the Wall: ―Overcomer‖
6.14 The Ugly/Beautiful Truth I
6.21 The Ugly/Beautiful Truth Part II
6.28 The Ugly/Beautiful Truth Part III
The first week of June we will finish our 5-week
sermon series called Mirror, Mirror on the Wall. It’s
my prayer we might have a better understanding of
ourselves and live out who God sees in us so that we
can continually be used by God in mighty
ways. Please note if you have missed a Sunday, you
should be able to listen online at disciplesfm.org.
During the month of June, we will have an eye-
opening, challenging three-fold sermon series. We
will discuss hard topics such as i) declining statistics of
churches, but how the church is the hope of the world,
ii) our primary goal as Christians is disciple-making,
iii) and in week 3 Rev. Oscar Banks will speak about
sacrifice. Sometimes the truth is ugly… yet it can also
be beautiful and life-giving!

THURSDAY BIBLE STUDY THURSDAY, JUNE 4 AT 10-11:30 AM
Friends, it is time to dive into the show
that some of our neighbors and friends have
been highly talking about, A.D. The Bible
Continues (The story of Acts). After
surveying the congregation, it’s official that
Thursday mornings from 10-11:30 am would
be the best time for our study. Class format
includes watching a 40-45 minute episode,
along with additional Scripture readings,
questions, and prayer.
We will begin our 12-week study this
THURSDAY, JUNE 4. Please email Kathi at
fmcc4u@msn.com or sign up in the
Fellowship Hall on Sunday.
NEW WELCOME CENTER As we continue to be
a welcoming and lov-
ing church, it is al-
ways important to
look at new ways to
show hospitality to
our visitors. Research
has shown that prior
to the worship service
beginning, most visitors already made their decision if they
will return. Therefore, creating a warm and inviting
atmosphere for visitors as soon as they take a
step into the doors is critical.
If you worshipped with us last week,
you might have noticed our new Welcome
Center located in the back of the narthex. We
have created visitor bags, which contain a
brochure packet with information about
FMCC as well as a mug and pen with our
church’s name and website. Additionally, if
you would like to purchase your own mug,
they are $7.00 and can be purchased by placing a check or
exact monetary amount in the drop box located on the
narthex table.

FROM THE MODERATOR ~ Bill Brainard
The 2015 General Assembly of the Christian
Church (Disciples of Christ) is set for July 18-22
in Columbus, Ohio and planning is well
underway. If you’ve been before, you’ll find a
bounty of new worship experiences and learning
tracks. If you’ve never been, there is a website
with a wealth of information, including a page just
for you. Go to ga.disciples.org to see the schedule,
workshop offerings and register online. This is
always a great experience; I had the chance to
attend the last one, and Rev. Seitz will be
attending this one.
May marked the completion of Reverend
Seitz’s first year here at FMCC. It is hard to
believe it has been that long already. Time flies
when we are having fun. We are looking forward
to many more together, serving the Lord.
There are a lot of upcoming activities at the
church, don’t miss your chance to take part.

PAULETTE IDOL, TEAM LEADER
The committee has met this last
week and has made tentative plans
through August of 2015. For June of 2015, plans have been
made to have a ―Special‖ birthday
celebration for Sunday, June 14th but for now, ―Sh –
it’s a surprise party‖ for everyone! On June 21, we, of course, will be celebrating
Father’s Day and hope to honor the men of our
congregation in similar fashion to our Mother’s Day
celebration. We wish to appeal to everyone for volunteers to
help in our worship service. We need to know who
would like to serve as Liturgist OR as Greeters OR as
Presenters of the Elements. If unable to serve an entire
month, how long can you serve? A week, two
weeks? Choose a friend or group of friends to share the
experience with you. We will work with you to help
you give your service where you’re able. We also wish to refresh our silk flower collection
used in the Sanctuary. Would you consider giving a
monetary donation toward this goal? If yes, place your
gift in an offering envelope and mark it as a ―Special‖
donation for ―Silk Flowers‖.

OSCAR BANKS
1 John 3:16 (The Message) ―This is how we’ve come to understand and experience love:
Christ sacrificed his life for us. This is why we ought to live sacrificially for our fellow
believers, and not just be out for ourselves.‖
As a church that is open to, receiving, and expressing God's Love; we are preparing to
launch some exciting new ventures. Beginning the first Sunday in June, we will begin monthly
outreach collections. These will all be to serve those in need in our community. We will kick
off with a "Pack the Pantry" canned food drive. In addition, as we look to August 16 we will host our first
"Friends and Family Funday Sunday".
As I meet with our team this week for prayer and planning, I am certain God will direct us as to how we
will make this year a launching pad into the future. This past Sunday we displayed our new welcome space
that is one new way we express God's Love through Hospitality. We are moving forward to breathe new life
into God's church here at Fort Myers Christian.
This fall we have a list of awesome events and outreach opportunities that will help us expand God's
mission in the life of our church. Together we will serve greater!
