English – Plays and Dialogue

Hi everyone, one of the units we would have covered in the

Summer term would have been plays and dialogue. I have

included a comprehension based on this to keep practicing

those skills.

All the children in guided reading have read play scripts,

they enjoy adding expression and choosing characters.

Lesson 1 – comprehension

Lesson 2 – identifying features of a play script

Lesson 3 – questions about a play script

Lesson 4 – act out a play script (this unit would usually

include a lot of drama. Can the children complete this with

parents or any siblings. I have included Rama and Sita as

this is a story we studied during our other cultures unit

so the children are familiar with it.

Lesson 5 – write your own play script. This could be about

anything they like or adapt the Oliver Twist script.

Lesson 1

Lesson 2

Ask at the beginning what they think the features are? Why

do we have play scripts? How do they look different to a

book?

Can they identify the colons, anything in bold, use of

brackets, stage directions. Do they like the play script?

Yes/no, why?

Lesson 3

Lesson 4

Lesson 5

Children do not have to use this template it is just an

example to help them.
