As I understand, emerging of

alternative/ novel idea through imagination is

creativity.

This essential higher-order ability has to

be stimulated and developed through various

curricular, co- and extra-curricular activities

at schools.

Here, I am suggesting Mosaic Painting

and Thread Painting arts as an activity/

technique to stimulate creativity among

students.

Introduction

Mosaic Painting is an art / design

in which multi-coloured paints are

painted on a sheet through water

(without brush).

Similarly, Thread Painting also

an art where painting/ design is made

on a sheet with use of thread.

(A) Materials required

1. Oil paints of various colour

2. Chart papers

3. Bucket/ trough

4. Scissor, glass rod/stick

5. Water

How to do Mosaic Painting?

1.Cut the chart paper into required size

2.Take half bucket of water

3.Sprinkle various colour oil paints in the

water

4.Blow gently so that it forms a mosaic

patterned layer on the surface of the water

5.Dip the chart paper vertically and take back

immediately

6.observe the magic in the chart; the mosaic

painting is done on chart (samples given in

pic-2-4)

7.Allow the painting to dry and store it

(A) Materials required

1. Thread

2. Ink / stain of various colour

3. Chart papers

4. Petridish/cup/ plate

5. Scissor

How to do Thread Painting?

1. Cut the chart/ white paper into required size and

fold in the middle

2. Take one feet thread and dip in ink/ stain kept in

the petridish

3. Place the stained thread in between folding of the

chart

4. Hold the folded chart (with the thread inside) with

left hand and pull the thread gently with right hand

5. Open and see the magic inside the folding; this

design is the thread painting (samples given in pic-

6-9)

6. Take another thread, dip in another colour and

repeat the same steps on the same chart or another

Advantages of Mosaic and Thread Painting

I observed that the art of Mosaic

Painting and Thread Painting was very much

helpful in arousing creativity and imagination

among the students.

Hence, I recommend to the Teachers to

use these art as an activity in the class to

stimulate creativity among students.
