This map illustrates satellite-detected floodwaters around Chimuara city, Zambeziaprovince, Mozambique as observed from theRadarsat-2 image acquired on 05 February2017 and Sentinel-1 image acquired on11December 2014. A relative stability of surfacewater extent was observed in the 05February 2017 image compared to the 11December 2014 image. It is likely that floodwaters have been systematicallyunderestimated along highly vegetated areasalong main river banks and within built-upurban areas because of the specialcharacteristics of the satellite data used. Thisis a preliminary analysis and has not yetbeen validated in the field. Please sendground feedback to UNITAR - UNOSAT.
