JUST A RUMORA new work involving a pond,a face, and wild ducks

Rumor is a three-story-high, upside-down por-trait of a face. When the portrait’s reflection isviewed on the surface of the adjacent campuspond, the image is inverted, producing a doubleportrait: the upside-down original and the rightside up reflection. The painting measuresapproximately 40 x 45 feet (nearly 1800 squarefeet) and is executed in acrylic paint.

For this project Schuleit selected an outdoorlocation where the enormous, windowless FineArts Center meets the campus pond, enabling alow-tech “projection” of the painted face to begenerated by nature alone — without the use ofelectronic devices.The face reflected in the waterchanges constantly throughout the day and intothe night.
