Mr. Spock is the best role model a kid could have.

He was a big influence on my childhood.

I grew up watching Star Trek in the 1970s.

I loved how brave and clever Captain Kirk was.

I loved that Lieutenant Uhura got to explore space too.

Who says you can’t be sexy at the office?

And I was in awe of Mr. Spock.

His dedication to logic put him above us pitiable fight-or-

flight humans.

To find something “fascinating” was the closest

he came to being excited.

I was fascinated by him.

His influence made me think about my emotions and

actions.

I taught myself to think about facts.

I learned to think about the feelings driving my

actions.

I learned to recognize when I was irrational.

As a human I can choose to be irrational.

Sometimes it’s the right choice.

Emotions should not always be pushed away.

The Vulcan mating rites of the Pon farr are a good example.

Mr. Spock lost his intellectual majesty in a fit of wild sexual

violence.

The shocking result of his buried emotions disturbed

me.

Mr. Spock showed me that pure emotional control was

too strenuous.

Our feelings need acknowledgment and

thoughtful outlets.

Mr. Spock taught me to use facts and logic for decision

making…

And that feelings should be analyzed instead of buried.

It is difficult to act against a strong feeling…

And be happy with the outcome.

Sometimes it is wisest to make logical sacrifices.

Sometimes it is best to listen to your feelings.

In my life I try to look at my problems…

Through the eyes of that pointy-eared half breed.

His logic helps me spot when my feelings will lead me

astray.

He helps me consider my feelings logically.

Thank you Mr. Spock for teaching me the value of

reason and logic…

And the power of emotion.

May your character live long and prosper…

In the minds of your many inspired fans.
