Meet the Teacher

Hello: My name is Shanna Johnson. I am new to Canton ISD along with my Husband who will be coaching at the High School. I have 2 boys, Caleb (7) and Caden (4). I am excited about teaching your kiddos this year! By the end of the 2012-2013 school year we will be a close nit family! Please know that I have an open door policy and I am here for you and yours!

Classroom Rules

• Be On Time• Keep your hands to yourself

• Before you Speak:

THINKT – is it TRUE?

H – is it HELPFUL?I – is it INSPIRING?

N – is it NECESSARY?K – is it KIND?

* Make Everyday a GREAT one!!!

Behavior Management

EVERY day is a NEW one!

• IF there is an “issue” that arises…Warnings and redirection will be given in the room first.

• IF the poor choice continues to be an “issue” a phone call to the parent/guardian will be made.

• IF that is not successful a trip to the office will be made and handbook policy will begin to take

effect.

Reading

I will be responsible for Reading with my Homeroom only!

Our goal this year will be to READ, READ, READ! The more we do this the better readers we become.

Skills will be taught throughout the year but in the end frequent reading is what makes us successful! My goal at this age is to promote a JOY of reading

and find a genre that your kiddos will enjoy as well! Please support and encourage your children at

home in this effort!

Math

Math will be taught by Mrs. Nipp.

She is an excellent math teacher and your children will be successful in her class!

Please be supportive of her in her effort to teach a subject that most children find very

difficult!

Writing

I will be teaching writing…Our goal this year is to become fluid writers.

As your children go about class, they will hear…READ…THINK…WRITE!

Our Motto will be:“Precise and Concise!”

We will learn to say what we mean and mean what we say.Grading will be done based on a rubric. They will receive the rubric

before beginning their assignment. This will ensure that they are aware of what is expected - NO SURPRISES!

Science

Science will be taught by Mr. Kindle.

Mr. Kindle loves his job and his subject matter. Your children will LOVE going to his

class and actively learning!I am sure you will learn a lot as well through

their excitement for Science!

Social Studies

Social Studies will be taught in Homeroom. I will do my best to integrate this subject with Reading and Writing. This is an election year

and opens the door for a lot of “real life” discussions. Please involve your kiddos in

real world topics as we begin this 2012-2013 school year. This opens the door to prior

knowledge and creates and excitement in classroom discussions!

Writing will be graded using a rubric. The rubric will be given to the student before the assignment has

begun. This will ensure that the students will be aware of expectations before beginning said

assignment. Please be aware of Benchmark dates as they are set by the district. The dates set are VERY important to

your kiddos – The benchmarks WILL be taken for grades to be entered into the grade book.

Parent Involvement

Parent Involvement is a WONDERFUL thing!

As you look through your packets…you will find and information sheet. On this sheet please note ways that you would like to be

involved with the daily activities of the classroom. Some ideas might include:

*Helping with parties (Halloween, Christmas, and Valentines)*Providing supplies for those that might not have them…

*Coming to read to the class…*Helping with tutoring

Being available for a type of cooperative learning time.Providing snacks for Reward days (ex: popcorn, crackers, fruit,
