Ms Cogan’s class went on a Math’s Trail on Thursday 29th September 2011. We were fortunate with the weather ..blue skies and brilliant

sunshine!

We found a 1D shape!

The line that separates the shadow of the storage container from the bright green grass

2. Then we searched the school grounds for 2D shapes

Square window Rectangular

windows

Circular centre in the flower

2D shapes have length and width

Can you see the 2D shape? Yes a semi-circle!

Will the rat be attracted to the circular entrance in the rat trap ?

2D means 2 dimensions

Squares have 4 equal sides and 4 right angles

A semi-circle!

2D shapes….

I see a pentagon ….Can you?

Another trapezium

Maths all around us

A semi-circleA trapezium is a quadrilateral

We found a perfect right angle!

Vertical line

Horizontal line

Parallel lines

And some final 2D shapes…….

Square

An isosceles triangle

Can you spot the trapezium ?

Next we looked for 3D shapes

The storage container is a cuboid

The water container is another cuboid

A 3D shape has length, width and depth.

Look at the cylinder

Two more cylinders!

Some more 3 D shapes!

Another cuboid

I found a cylinder

More 3D shapes………..

Can you find the cube…at the top of the chimney?

The Bath Road block of houses are a pentagonal prism

Length, width and depth = 3D

Can you spot the sphere …..on top of Bremore Castle?

Could the roof in the Mill Shopping Centre be a trapezoidal prism??

We found some angles

See the right angle

Right angle at the corner of the step

See the reflex angle of 270 degrees

When 2 lines meet they make an angle

straight angle

Straight angle

We learned that shape, lines and angles are all around us….
