SUMMARY OF BRAINPOP: MAIN IDEA The BrainPOP Main Idea MmLE starts with a short

video explaining what the main idea of something is. Throughout the video, it shows examples of T-Charts to show the students how to organize the topic and the main idea. The video also talks about how the main idea doesn’t have to be at the beginning of the paragraph but that it can be in the middle of even the conclusion of a paper/paragraph. The video also talks about how the main idea can be a person, idea, theory, or event. After the video, there is a quiz that the students can take and there are also games that the students can play to enhance their understanding of the main idea. There also various activities that the students can complete to make sure that they fully understand the concept of topic and main idea.

CONNECTION TO MORENO AND MAYER (2007)

Pacing Principle: The Pacing Principle as stated in the Moreno and

Mayer (2007) article is "an example of a controlling type of interactivity" (p. 319). The pacing principle is "a simple way to allow students to control the pace of presentation of complex dynamic multimodal materials in computer based learning is to include a continue button on the computer screen" (p. 319). This MmLE is a great example of the pacing principle because the student is able to complete the MmLE at their own pace because they are able to stop and start the video on their own if they need to write something down. The students can also complete the activities on their own time and complete the quiz at their leisure.
