MICS Data Processing Workshop

Purpose of the Supervisor’s Menu

• Assign keyers to clusters• Executes supervisor’s applications

...and displays results• Transfers and backs up files• Creates field-check tables• Exports files to SPSS• Allows entry of GPS data

Starting The Supervisor’s Menu

• Double-click on super_menu.pff– create shortcut on desktop

• First screen asks supervisor to enter a cluster number CCC

The Supervisor’s Menu

Enter Cluster Tracking Information: T

• Purpose: – enter tracking information for cluster

• Actions– displays menu to choose what information to enter– opens cluster tracking information entry screen– cluster tracking information stored in

cluster_tracking.dat

Check Data Structure: A

• Purpose: – Check structure of a cluster’s main data file

• Actions– copies MCCC.DAT from mics5\cspro\data to mics5\cspro\raw– executes structure check application– displays results

Verify the Data: C

• Purpose: – Verify a cluster’s data file

• Actions– compares mics5\cspro\raw\MCCC.DAT to mics5\cspro\veri\VCCC.DAT

– displays list of differences

Backup the Raw Data: D

• Purpose: – Back up a cluster’s checked and verified data file

• Action– copies MCCC.DAT from mics5\cspro\raw to mics5\cspro\backup

Run Secondary Editing Program: E

• Purpose: – Provide list of inconsistencies for secondary editor

• Actions– executes secondary editing application– displays list of inconsistencies

Modify the Data: F

• Purpose: – Allow supervisor to implement changes requested

by secondary editor• Action

– executes data entry application in modify mode

• uses input file mics5\cspro\raw\MCCC.DAT

Backup the Final Data: G

• Purpose: – Back up a cluster’s checked, verified and edited

data file• Action

– copies MCCC.DAT from mics5\cspro\raw to mics5\cspro\final

Export the Data to SPSS: H

• Purpose: – Export all completed clusters’ data files to SPSS

• Actions– copies all data files in mics5\cspro\final folderto mics5\cspro\all.dat file– executes export application using all.dat as input– creates SPSS data and description files in mics5\spss

Enter GPS Data: I

• Purpose: – Enter GPS data

• Action– executes GPS data entry application in add mode

• adds cases to mics5\cspro\gps\gps.dat

Modify GPS Data: J

• Purpose: – Modify GPS data

• Actions– executes GPS data entry application in modify

mode• uses input file mics5\cspro\gps\gps.dat

New Cluster Number: N

• Purpose: – allow supervisor to work on a new cluster

• Actions– displays cluster number screen– changes value of CCC

View Cluster Tracking Info: V

• Purpose: – Provide overview of the status of all the clusters

• Actions– displays cluster tracking information screen

Field Check Tables: P

• Purpose: – Generates field check tables based on the data

files in the \raw folder• Action

– executes mics5\cspro\super\cfldck.bch– creates

mics5\cspro\super\cfldck.lst

Quit: Q

• Purpose: – quits supervisor’s menu gracefully

• Actions– closes CSPro– deletes file justone.txt

Changing from Network to a Flash drives

• For some countries, data entry computers will not be networked– Data copied to a flash drive instead of shared drive

• If this is the case in your country:– go through the data entry menu application– make changes indicated by the comment!!! network !!!

Modifying the Supervisor’s Menu• Change language in errmsg and display functions• Change language in accept functions• Check parameters in SUPER_FF preproc; change if

necessary• Change cluster number in two places; look for comment: !!! CLUSTER !!!

• Check date in PROC TRECVY, TENTRYY, TVENTRYY • After modifications: Delete cluster_tracking.dat !!!
