BACKGROUND INFORMATION Napoleon Dynamite was released on
26th December 2004. The budget was an estimated $400,000. The genre is comedy- but I doubt it
would appeal to everyone. It was a Paramount Pictures production. It doesn’t have any particularly big
actors involved.
OPENING SEQUENCE The first 3 minutes and 33 seconds is
just credits. Its done in a way that‘s interesting, and
it’s not as boring as usual titles can be. It lasts a long time, and says a lot of
peoples names, we wouldn’t be able to do this in our film as it is already way
over the time space that we have.
NAPOLEON The first time we see him, it is a long
shot- this shows us what he is wearing and we get a general feel for the character.
He’s wearing a t-shirt tucked into his jeans with ‘moon boots’ on.
This would tell us that he’s a bit of a geek, but being the first shot we see it also suggests he is the central protagonist.
MORE NAPOLEON... The music suggests its going to be a
comedy. His hair and glasses makes him look like
a geek and you wonder if he’s going to be a schools bullies victim or something.
The first speech makes Napoleon seem like he is really stupid, he is a bit of a weirdo though..
When he throws the toy out of the window and just lets it trail along behind him it’s really stupid, but it makes you laugh.
THE FIRST 2 MINUTES IS UP ...and we haven’t really found out much
apart from that Napoleon is a geek. You can’t really see where the film is
going, or guess what is going to happen later on in the film.
The opening scene doesn’t really do much for the film as it doesn’t even seem all that good from it.
