About the Organization

National Aeronautics and Space Administration was established in 1958.

Headquarters located in Washington

NASA administrator Mr. Charles Bolden

NASA deputy admn. Ms. Lori

Garver

NASA's vision

To reach for new heights and reveal the unknown so that what we do and learn will benefit humankind.

NASA’S ROLE IN THE 21ST CENTURY

NASA has had a distinguished history of contributions ……..

The only human landings on the moon

Spectacular robotic exploration of the solar system

The earliest NASA mission Voyager still provide valuable data about the solar system more than 30 years after launch.

The recent exploration of the Saturn system by Cassini

ADAM`S BRIDGE

Ancient bridge in the Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka.

LUNAR EXPLORATION BY

NASA

MOON MINERLOGY MAPPER

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) launched Chandrayaan-1 on October 22, 2008.

Instrument

The Moon Mineralogy Mapper (M3) instrument is an imaging spectrometer.

It generates images of moon surfaces in long narrow strips and spreads them like a rainbow in push-broom fashion.

DISCOVERIES by (M3)

Moon was completely molten lava.

Moon the potential source of water.

Lunar explorations by NASA

Exploration Preparation: To use the moon to prepare for future human missions.

Inspiration: To engage, inspire and educate the public

MARS

Mars in the past

Volcanoes on mars erupted to produce water.

Cool conditions led to freezing of water on its surface.

What would life need to exist on mars ?

Possibility of life on Mars?

Mars surveyor program of NASA sent five space crafts between 1996 and 2005.

In July 1996 scientists discovered possible fossils of bacteria in meteorite from mars.

Analysis & conclusion

Fossils were 1000 times smaller than the smallest bacteria.

Fossil was found to be made of many different chemical compounds.
