design

Design to me is my strategic approach to achieve a unique interior.

As a designer, I am constantly seeking inspirations, drawing mostly from life experiences learned in my travels. This has developed into a deep respect for different cultures along with styles and designs.

I think that a successful design is not judged by whether it is pretty or not, instead it is evaluated whether it has met its function, and weather it sparked a reaction in people minds.

I believe that each space I design must be thought out as a rare environment in this world, and my goal is to create a memorable space.

Beats Nightclub is a combination of the Beat store and the nightclub. The facility is intended to bring the nightclub experience to a residential area, such as Upper East Side, New York. Using the silent disco approach (where music is broadcasted wirelessly through mobile device and headphones), Beats Nightclub allows the customer to have a more intimate experience with their music. This is achieved by using the Beats headphones technology in combination with a nightclub setting, which allows customers to share the moment with others.

The concept for this project is to connect the brand, the people, and the music. Resulting in a dynamic environment, where views are created through fragmented geometric planes through progression of space.

“What strikes me, is that skaters prioritize a relationship with the work rather than a mechanical relationship aesthetic. For them, all the interest of a sculpture is the variety of movements that it recommends.” -Rhombus Sectus

this notion by the oldest type of magic, visual perception.

So, to reflect on the husband and family interest in magic, the concept for the loft is preseption. Visual perception is the ability to interpret information and surroundings from the effects of visible light reaching the eye. In visual perception what people see is not simply a translation of what is really there. As John Lennon once said, “The more I see, the less I know for sure.” Throughout the apartment in the public space, isolated spaces are created by the illusion of enclosement, and in the private spaces perception is demonstrated thru physiological environments.

The clients are both nearly forty years old. They have two children, a daughter of 8 years and a son of six. The husban is a very successful Magician, and the wife is an art history teacher. Also, the wife’s father will be living with the family, and he is a retired musician.

Magicians are known for their entertaining art of tricking the audience. However, the illusion has very little to do with the Magician; the true magic is with in our own eyes. Magicians alter what the brain perceives by manipulating how it interprets scenes. In the loft, the magic it is not done by the Magician but by the architecture. This loft conveys
