Can I get credit for that?

regular college students can take)

made by the Registrar's Office
Math Placement
Your initial math placement will be based on several different factors. In your
packet you should have received a yellow piece of paper that shows your initial
math placement based on your ACT or SAT math score (or if we have received
AP Calculus scores or a college transcript with completed math classes for
you).
The back of the sheet shows the different math classes at Tech and the
required scores to start in each of the classes.
This placement is based solely on the information we currently have for you. If
you are taking the AP Calculus exam or are currently in a math class at a
college, this initial class will change as we get additional information from you.
Math Placement Test
• If you wish to try to challenge your initial math placement based on your test scores, then you
can take the ALEKS Assessment test.
• Incoming transfer students who are not receiving college math credit for College Algebra,
Pre-Calculus or Calculus should take the ALEKS to make sure you start off in the most
appropriate math class or you can get us your ACT/SAT test scores for placement.
• Additional information on ALEKS will be showing up on your MyMichiganTech site later in the
Spring.
• When? ALEKS can be taken after May 1 (price is $20 and it does allow a student take the
exam up to 5 times-includes tutorial software which must be reviewed for at least 5 hours
between each taking of the test).
Math Placement Test
• Students who are planning on taking the AP Calculus exam or IB
Higher Level Mathematics exam
• We generally receive the test results in early July
• You can decide at that point if you need to take the ALEKS exam
or not.
Math Placement
There is a session today on ALEKS and Math Placement. It takes
place at:
Fisher Hall (building #15) Room 139 at 10:45-11:30am
