Senior Policy Advisor at OFW Law, John Block has dedicated his professional career to the fields of agriculture, food, and health. His accomplishments in agriculture began with the building of a large and successful hog operation in his home state of Illinois where he also served as the Director of Agriculture from 1977-1981. He was tapped by President Reagan to serve as the Secretary of the US Department of Agriculture from 1981-1985, where he played a key role in the development of the 1985 Farm Bill. He was President and Chief Executive Officer of Food Distributors International (formerly National American Wholesale Grocers Association) from 1986-January 2003. John has served on the Board of Directors of John Deere, Hormel Foods, and Friends of the World Food Program. He currently serves on the Boards of Aemetis, Inc., The Graduate School, The Farm Foundation, and the CNFA Agrabusiness Alliance. Moreover, he delivers a weekly radio commentary, John Block Reports From Washington, wherein he addresses matters of concern to the farm community. Mr. Block is a graduate of the US Military Academy.
Paul Mobley, is an American photographer who captures the true essence of the nature of a person’s soul. From remote Alaskan villages to the majestic palaces of Croatia, Mobley travels around the world to find the face of a thousand words. Mobley’s first book “American Farmer: Portraits from the Heartland”, was published in the fall of 2008 by Welcome Books. This life changing experience led Paul across the United States to more than 300 farms and ranches. For three years Paul immersed himself in an undiscovered world of agriculture where he brought to life the story of farming in every portrait he shot. American Farmer celebrates our forefathers and mothers along with the new generations of farmers and ranchers as they continue to be the stewards of this great land we call America. It follows the tradition of Richard Avedon’s watershed monograph in the American west and Mike Disfarmer’s Herber Springs Series. On April 18, 2009, The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum presented Paul with the Western Heritage Award For “Best Photography Book.”
