Why Social Media?

Here are the facts!

Really, what IS “SOCIAL MEDIA?”

Let us define it!

What is “Social Media?”

Wikipedia says…. ( The boring definiation)

“Social media is information content created by people using highly accessible and scalable publishing technologies that is intended to facilitate communications, influence and interaction with peers and with public audiences, typically via the Internet and mobile communications networks. The term most often refers to activities that integrate technology, telecommunications and social interaction, and the construction of words, pictures, videos and audio. This interaction, and the manner in which information is presented, depends on the varied perspectives and "building" of shared meaning among communities, as people share their stories and experiences. Businesses also refer to social media as user-generated content (UGC) or consumer-generated media (CGM). ?

In English!

It is people getting online and sharing information with each other… Their day, stories, business, news, pictures, video, hopes, fears, wishes and on and on and on and on.

Getting Started

1. If you are not on Linkedin – start today.

2. When creating your profile, use your keywords where you can. This will help you come up higher in searches on your keywords.

3. Write your profile with your target in mind.

4. Remember, this is a profile – not a resume.

Become an Expert – Give to get

Use Questions and Answers to build credibility and expertise. Give full answers to the question asked and stay on topic. If they ask about a boat, don’t answer including car stuff! Also, keep compliance in mind. Give general information that you CAN talk about.

For example, if someone is asking about financial planning, maybe talk about professionalism, compliance, NMFN benefit, but not giving advice on how to invest.

Lastly, remember Linkedin is a professional social network. Keep it professional and ethical. If you wouldn’t want your Mother to see it – don’t do it.

Think About It!

Cell Phone’s are no longer used for just “talk minutes.”

Newspaper’s are loosing circulation.Email is a less expensive alternative to fax

machines to send documents.Email is no longer the preferred method for

today’s youth to communicate.

Oh yeah….

Cell phones can keep schedules, provide you with maps, take, hold & send pictures, letters, documents, provide news stories, wake you up from naps, and….

Oh yeah….
