Student Support Servicesekhukhune FET College is a product of a merger of two colleges with very distinct diverse backgrounds, namely: CS Barlow College and Dr SCN Phatudi College of Education.
The College has become the first choice institution for further education and training for many young people and the programmes offered directly respond to the priority skills demand of the South African economy available in theory and practical learning.
The college constituted the unit called student Support which strives to embody the vision and mission of the College by providing expert and exceptional service to students - with the end product being a happy, motivated and balanced individual who has reached his/her full potential. In order to achieve these ideals different service areas are managed by the Student Supporters at CS Barlow and CN Phatudi campus:
: The Student Support on the respective campuses in collaboration with the College Finance Department are responsible for notifying students about bursaries. We also have the DHET FET Colleges Bursary Scheme.
The Sport and Culture Co-ordinator and the SRC organise informal activities during orientation. The Miss Barlow and Miss CN Phatudi beauty contest, HIV/AIDS awareness day, Drugs and Alcohol Abuse day are held to preach healthy lifestyle.
: The Student Support help to facilitate the SRC elections annually and once the students democratically elected their leadership, we organise the three-day leadership training camp.
The Placement Test is available on every campus. Students complete the questionnaire and the Student Support discuss possible careers with the students concerned. Students are also given assignments to do research on the internet about careers and assisted with Cvs compilations and job hunting skills.
: A number of social occasions are organized by the SRC on different campuses, e.g. Miss Valentines Day, Miss Sekfetcol, the end of year function, etc. Students enjoy attending these occasions.
: The students are encouraged to participate in the various sporting codes available at the college, that include soccer, netball, softball, chess, etc and the college take part in the Sport tournament organised by the LIFETSCA and the Arts and cultural activities.
: Tutors are available and different programs, eg: study methods, peer counseling and PLATO, to assist students academically.

General Information (NCVs)WHAT IS NCV?
The Department of Higher Education and Training introduced the National Certificate Vocational at public Further Education and Training (FET) Colleges. The NC(V) offers programmes of study in a variety of vocational field. The programmes are intended to directly respond to the priority skills demands of the South African economy.
The National Certificate Vocational is offered at Levels 2, 3 and 4 of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). The qualification is designed to provide both theory and practical experience in a particular vocational field. The practical component of the study is offered in a simulated workplace environment. Students have the opportunity to experience work situations during the period of study.
A learner will qualify for a National Certificate Vocational after completion of each level. In order to obtain a National Certificate Vocational a student is required to take a total of 7 subjects. These include 3 fundamental subjects and 4 vocational/compulsory subjects as set out in every field of your study choices.
The 3 fundamental subjects are:
Language - this must be the language of teaching and learningMathematics or Mathematics LiteracyLife Orientation
The Department of Higher Education and Training also has FET College Bursary Scheme attached to this qualification for all learners who enroll for NC(V) and whose applications are successful.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
A prospective student should have at least a year end school report for Grade 9 or higher, or an NQF Level 1 qualification, or an approved bridging programme designed for the specific purpose to access NQF Level 2, or a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment to meet the basic requirements for access to NQF Level 2. National Certificate Vocational Engineering StudiesREPORT 191 PROGRAMMES (NATED)
With the introduction of the National Certificate Vocational (NCV), in 2007, the phasing out of report 191 courses commenced. This resulted in N1 - N3 qualifications being phased out in public FET colleges for all engineering, business and services programmes.
Howeverr, the N1 - N3 Engineering Studies and N4 - N6 engineering, business and service programmes have been extended by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) until such that the DHET issues a gazette on it’s phase-out. Students can thus continue to enrol N1 - N3 Engineering Studies and N4 - N6 Engineering, Business and Service Programmes.
SUBJECTS REQUIREMENTS AND DURATION OF THE COURSES
In case of Engineering studies each level requires three subjects and runs for weeks/trimester duration. In Business and Services-related programmes each requires four subjects and is of six months/semester duration. It is also important to note that enrolments take place every trimester for engineering programmes, and every semester for business and services programmes.
The Department of Higher Education and Training also has FET College Bursary Scheme attached to this qualification for all learners who enroll for Report 191 programmes and whose applications are successful.

The International Computer Drivers License (ICDL) is an internationally accepted qualification. It certifies that the holder has knowledge of the basic concepts of IT and is able to use a personal computer and common computer applications at a basic level of competence. Universities give exemption to a computer course for first year students if they have passed all seven modules.
The ICDL is a test of practical skills and it measures the success of the training and proves you are competent to use the Computer.
The ICDL is based on seven modules:
1. Basic concepts of IT2. Using the computer and managing files3. Word processing (MS Word)4. Spreadsheet (MS Excel)5. Database (MS Access)6. Presentations (PowerPoint)7. Information and Communication (Internet)
All but the first module, test practical skills rather than theory. Tests consist of tasks chosen at random of typical day-to-day computer applications. The ICDL is a qualification indicating what you can actually do, rather than a theoretical approach. As such, it is approved and supported by the NQF and South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA)
When a student completed three modules they can apply for a STARTER Cetificate. Each student receives a Log Book with registration wherein his/her successes are noted. On completion of Module 7 the ICDL Foundation of SA issues an ICDL certificate.
Entry Requirements:
A prospective learner should have at least a year end report for Grade 11 or Higher, or an NQF Level 2 Qualification, or an approved bridging programme designed for the specific purpose to access this skills programme.
