Term Three has begun with a flurry of activity throughout the campus . The school is excelling in a variety of
areas- most notably our students brilliant performance in Aerobics, Cheerleading and Dance at the National
Titles with Mrs Hocking on the Gold Coast. Furthermore Mr Crouch has led our boys to a commanding win
over Heathcote High School to progress to the semi-finals of the prestigious Buckley Shield.
The campus has also performed particularly well in the NAPLAN results which arrived this week and will be
distributed on Thursday. The area of numeracy was particularly pleasing and is a testament to the hard work
undertaken by Ms Crump and the Mathematics Department, as well as the foundation work of our partner
primary schools. There was also considerable growth in the performance of Aboriginal students which has
been a focus and shows the excellent work being undertaken by our classroom teachers, LaST Support,
Norta Norta tutors and the work of ACPO Joe Grauner. The area of literacy realized an improvement from
2014, but will remain a school focus in the immediate future. Congratulations to all students who have
achieved pleasing improvements.
The Campus has also been successful in appointing a new Head Teacher PDHPE to replace Mr Montgom-
ery who has now been promoted to Deputy Principal. The successful candidate is Angela Cox of Killarney
Heights High School who is very well regarded for her leadership qualities and innovative delivery of curricu-
lum. I would like to publicly thank Mr Pat Crouch for his work as Relieving Head Teacher and for the wonder-
ful initiatives he has introduced in this time.
There has again been a lot of activity in terms of renovations of the Campus throughout the beginning of the
term. This has included the repair of the roofs and replacement of ceilings in the Science department which
were badly damaged in the storms of Term 2. Also, new bike racks have been installed by Mr Paul Richard-
son and boys from the ASPIRE program at the school. Finally, this week new synthetic grass is being laid in
the Support Unit playground area to promote more all year activity in this area.
The campus is going particularly well with a large increase in student enrolments expected in 2016. Wonder-
ful community events like the school expo evening demonstrate the growing community links the school is
establishing. Kindergarten visits for our partner primary and private schools in the area and the sports gala
days undertaken by our Yr 9 PASS students show the community focus of the campus. This has also been
reflected in the outstanding support by organizations such as iiNet sponsoring the school Football team,
Ettalong Diggers sponsoring our school Cheerleading program and Ettalong Bowling Club support of our
environmental initiatives. We very much appreciate this financial support and look to building closer commu-
nity links in the coming years.

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Community Members,
As Term 3 progresses we begin to look and plan for the remainder of 2015 and into 2016.
Many important events are coming up, but most important is for students to successfully complete your cur-rent year of school and move to the next - attendance, diligence and application are the three critical as-
pects.
Year 8 – Subject Selection information has been distributed and by now, all students will have submitted
their preferences. It is expected that students will know their electives by early Term 4.
Year 9 – Semester 2 assessments begin and these will have a major impact on your progression and placement for 2016 as well as your final qualification for the Year 9 Certificate. All Year 9 students should be working at 100% and meeting the challenge of NO suspensions and NO levels as you
move towards the Senior School.
Thankyou everyone and maintain the effort for the remainder of the year.

HELMETS….HELMETS….HELMETS
A reminder that it is the law to wear a Helmet when riding bikes and it is a recom-mendation when riding skateboards and scooters etc. We will begin to enforce
this at school, students MUST wear a helmet when riding to and from school.
One final note is a message to ALL students, parents and community members, “please take extreme care whilst driving near the school (especially morning and afternoon), Veron
Road is very busy and we need everyone to take care to avoid any acci-dents. Please remember that this is a school zone (40km/h) designated for
the safety and protection of the children!

both in and outside of the class room. A school
day can include research, meetings with other
student representatives and a spot of dancing.
Future Council 2015
Niah Delamotte 9.2.1
Last week a group of Year 9 students, Zoe Sounness and
Amelia Newell-Close from 9.2.1 and Courtney Kowalczyk, Ethan Pedrana and
Rachael Hennock from 9.6.1 visited Gosford City Council to participate in a mock
council meeting. This was a great opportunity for students to further their leadership
skills.
At the meeting, students presented speeches on high density living, extreme event
preparation, plastic bags and the endangered bush stone curlews. These topics were
then debated. Our students used the microphones in the council chambers and sat on
the podium.
Afterwards, the students were taken to McDonalds for a bite to eat, where Ms Hannah
paid for the meal.
“It was an amazing experience. I really enjoyed it.” Zoe.
Poetry Competition
Vanessa Widjaja and Keila Wagg from 7.2.1 and Alex
Tuthill from 9.2.1 were recognised for their poetry writing skills in the recent Poetry
Competition run by Mrs Kitson. Students were praised for their creativity and com-

Exciting things have been happening in and around the campus and many of our students have been in-volved in such events as Education Week, Campus Open Evening, National Cheerleading/Dance and Aero-bics competitions and Primary School Gala Days. All of these events showcase the talent that many of our students possess and to see students achieving success, promoting our Campus and leading others is al-ways pleasing to see. Our Year 7 students continue to amaze with their accelerated learning across all subjects and Year 8 have very recently been making their choices for elective subjects that they wish to pursue in Year 9, 2016. Year 9 are continuing to work hard towards their goals for graduation success and the mature and committed ap-proach to their learning is seeing them develop into fine examples of young learners aspiring to future aca-demic, sporting and cultural success. Staff have been impressed with all our students efforts and we only hope that you continue to demonstrate and achieve your very best in every subject and task you take part in. Well done Team 3

The Spring Show Season Is Underway
Brisbane Water Secondary College with Breeders Mr & Mrs McCredie Win at Brisbane Royal Show
Brisbane Water Secondary College cattle club and agriculture students were very busy training and prepar-
ing cattle for the Brisbane Royal Show in early August, undoubtedly the biggest and most prestigious cattle
show nationally of the year.
Two pure bred limousins were presented for competition by the school. The red limousin steer was bred by
BWSC in conjunction with the highly acclaimed breeders Mr and Mr McCredie of Vacy NSW.
He placed third in the Open Middle Heavyweight class on the hoof and second on the hook in an unprece-
dented quality field.
Luke Brooks was recommended to represent Brisbane Water
Secondary College and was responsible for the preparation and
parading of the steers during the show.
The black steer bred by Mr Ben Toll competed in the School Steer competition, however, did not place on
the day.
BWSC would like to thank St Johns College Dubbo for their continued hospitality, catering and camarade-
rie. BWSC Agriculture Department
staff and students would also like
to acknowledge our appreciation
for the continuing support of Umi-
na and Woy Woy Rotary Clubs.

Combining Maths and Art students from 8S1 and CAPA
completed a project focussing on symmetry. Students
used their name as the basis for their art and by trans-
lating and rotating the image they created some fantastic Maths Artworks! See
if you can work out the name of the students who created each artwork.

Don’t forget about using Maths Online. Students have their own individual login and password which is
available from your child’s Maths teacher.
If you are using a PC you will need to use the Flash
login but if you have an apple or android product you
should use the HTML 5 login. Both versions have
games that are designed to improve student’s memory
and recall of times tables so students are encouraged
to use this daily and try to beat their previous scores.

We have commenced this term in the Library by celebrating Book Week.
We have recently added all six shortlisted books to our school library collec-
tion, as well as numerous other titles which are located in the library foyer on
the “new books” stand.
During their Library lessons Year 7 have been learning about copyright and
plagiarism, and how this relates to their learning, including the BWSC Stu-
dent Assessment Policy. We have also been learning about how to access our Google Apps for Education
account, with students accessing their online classrooms environments, providing them opportunities to
explore cloud-based learning and technology.
We have added resources to the “Library” classroom account to support all students with referencing and
citing sources for their assessment tasks.

STEM
(Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics)
Last month students from Year 8 and Year 9 were invited to a STEM excursion at Woy Woy Campus.
Unsure what to expect the students arrived eager to know more. They jumped into various fun and inter-
esting activities from creating bottle rockets, making milkshakes using a bicycle, designing bridge struc-
tures, collecting DNA from strawberries and testing out their speed and cornering skills in a computer
stimulation vehicle. All activities were conducted by students from the University of Wollongong and
were designed to make students more aware of STEM and encourage them to get involved. The stu-
dents learnt many things from the day and were able to impress with their newfound knowledge by an-
swering questions at the end. Many expressed an interest in finding out more and even pursuing engi-
neering as a future career option.

The students in the Multi-category class in our Support Unit had the important job of looking after 15 chicken
eggs in an incubator.
All 15 chickens hatched, much to the excitement of everyone to see this happen in class time. For two
weeks we looked after the baby chicks keeping them warm, fed and watered.
All 15 chicks went to a very happy home with our students.

The team would like to acknowledge
and celebrate the sporting achieve-
ments of some very talented year 8
and 9 students. "We aim above the mark to hit the mark." Ralph Waldo Emerson
TALENTED athlete Levi Moffatt--McDonald says sport has in-
creased his confidence in all areas of his life. In just 18 months at
high school, Levi, 13, of 861, has represented BWSC in rugby
league state competitions and in athletics at many levels, includ-
ing the national public schools’ athletics meeting last year.
He is now preparing for the state athletic championships at Home-
bush in high jump and long jump. Last year, Levi won the state
title for long jump, was placed second in high jump, but had to
withdraw from shot put because of football commitments.
Levi has a full training schedule, and his hard work is paying off
with new personal bests in long and high jump. While he is look-
ing forward to challenging himself again at an elite level, he
knows winning is not everything.
“You can always try again.”
Congratulations to the hardworking Under-14 BWSC rugby league team, which is predominantly made up
of the 861 targeted sports students.
In the Buckley Shield, the team is in the final
four of the state. In the NSW All-Schools
competition, involving teams from over 200
schools across the state, the team earned a
place in the state finals in Mt Druitt, where
they were defeated by St Dominos Penrith.
Congratulations and good luck to the team and to its Team Six members: Harry Bovis; Mitchell Brady; Jamie Capell; Jack Colvin; Sione Fanua; Taine Jacob; Levi Moffatt-McDonald; Letrelle Polaia; Mino Polaia; Cody Wilesmith; Lachlan Purcell and Dylan Pardey Patrick Hyland and Eden Fagerstrom

It has been a busy start to term 3 and it's set to get busier! Team 8 students are reminded to remain organised and stay on top of their studies by using their diaries and at-tending the homework centre which last week was re
launched as Tutorial Tuesday's. It is a great way for students to receive extra assistance with their study routines, homework and assessment tasks. Along with the usual independent and small group sessions, each
week will involve a tutorial often in different student interest areas such as technology and illustration. Last week saw our first session taught by our new librarian Linda Harvey in Scratch Programming. Students really enjoyed learning about something new and a number of students have ex-pressed interest in further learning.
Team 8 students were involved in the Claymation workshop which was organised by Miss Price. Students spent the day using technologies to create their own claymation movies, similar to the Wallace and Gromit TV series. It was a fun and exciting day and as mentioned above, students really enjoyed experiencing some-thing new.
All team 8 students have recently complet-ed the Maths competition. This was a very challenging competition but team 8 stu-dents relish any challenge which is thrown at them and completed it with gusto. Con-gratulations to everyone for their efforts.

Students in Yr9 are reminded that they must have their cover letter and resume into me for checking. This process will occur week 7 & 8 this term. The last Whitecard course will be on Friday September 11. The final Barista course will be Friday October 30. Permission notes are now up on the website.
Students are also reminded that they must obtain a USI number for the Whitecard course and send completed forms back to school with money and permission note.
Yr 8's are currently working on building their knowledge on careers choices, their interests and what careers connect to their personal interests. Students have now been shown the My Future website. This website is informative and provides great resources for your child. You may want to have a look at it yourself. Thanks Mrs Lewis

The boys had 5 pool games commencing at
9.00am against Erina. It is always good to
start with a win and the boys did not disap-
point. Kaleb, Dylan, Jackson and Mathew lead the BWSC boys to a 4-2 win. Next up was one of the
stronger teams, Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College-Berkeley Vale. This was a tough game with the ball
moving end to end. The opposition scored first however, Reece broke through and scored an equaliser.
After a hard 20 minutes it came down to a 2-2 draw.
Game 3 BWSC boys were up against Wyong. This was another positive performance by the team with
Mathew, Reece, Dylan and Jordan helping us to a 4-0 win. Game 4 we were up against Henry Kendall.
These guys were so tall I thought they must be year 9 or 10 players. However, the skill demonstrated by
BWSC boys was excellent. A high scoring game with a dominating 6-3 win was the result. Jye, Jordan, Jack-
son scored and a special mention to Kaleb for scoring 3 tries during this game.
Our final pool game was up against Kariong. Another strong performance from the boys secured a 5-2 win.
Sam added to the many tries scored today.
It was straight into the Semi Final for BWSC boys team and we were up against the winner of the second
pool, Narara Valley. From viewing the score sheets through the day we knew this would be our hardest
game of the day. This was a hard 20 mins of offensive and defensive manoeuvres and plays from both sides.
Unfortunately Narara Valley drove the ball with more speed and cracked our line 3 unanswered times. While
3-0 was the final result, our boys should not be disappointed as they played consistently for the whole game.
A big thanks from Mr Rae
for representing your
school the entire day.
Well done. See you in

The team competed in the NSW Netball Central Coast Gala day on 23rd July at Adcock Park.
The girls played 6 matches during the day in a round robin tournament. The girls showed great adaptability
to play out of position where needed. The team played well all day with 4 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw. Our team
had a draw with Tumbi Umbi, the eventual winners of the day, and came second in their division.
The girls can feel proud of their achievements. They not only displayed great talent on court, but also played
with great sportsmanship both on and off the court. They were wonderful representatives of BWSC Umina.
Thanks to Cali Backhouse for umpiring all day.
The team will play in the Sydney North Netball tournament in the near future.

On the 28th July, the Year 7/8 All Schools
Touch Football competition was held at Ad-
cock Park, West Gosford. While the wind was chilly, the sun was out so both students and teachers headed
off for an early start. The school enters this event every year and both boys and girls were hoping to maintain
a reputation as a strong competitive side.
The girls Touch Football team consisted of: Gemma Cusack, Eloise Gaukrodger, Lauren Jackson, Kunlaya
Lunsuep, Isabel Monsalve, Phoebe Nelson, Hailey Raroa, Nicola Roberts, Samantha Smith, Amy Steed,
Kyhamoana Tevi-Fuimaono and Olivia Walton.
Our girls Touch team started the day strongly. They were undefeated in all 6 pool matches:
Kincumber 4 –0, Gosford 5-1, Terrigal 1-0, Wyong 7-1, Erina 3-0, St Josephs 2-1.
The team had a convincing win in the Quarter Finals against Erina, and had to face St Josephs in the Semi
Final.
It was a nail biting game with the scores tied 1-1 with a last minute try, which sent our girls into a drop off
situation. Fantastic defence, girls putting their bodies on the line, and Gemma’s awesome dive (with the war
wounds to prove it) saw the girls win 2-1 with 3 players on 3 players.
The girls versed a red hot representative stacked Berkley Vale team in the Grand Finals. We put up a valiant
effort but were outclassed on the day, narrowly missing out on progressing to the regional Finals.
Extremely proud of all girls in the team who played cohesively and showed enormous skill in technique and
game play strategy.
