AsSalaamuAlaikum,

Oneofthemostimportantthingsyoucanteachyourchildisrespect.Thebestwaytoteachrespectistoshowrespect.Whenachildexperiencesrespect,theyknowwhatitfeelslikeandbeginstounderstandhowimportantitis.Thevalueofself-respectmaybesomethingwetakeforgranted.Wemaydiscoverhowveryimportantitiswhenourself-respectisthreatened,orweloseitandhavetoworktoregainit,orstruggletodevelopormaintainitinaverydifficultenvironment.Somepeoplefindthatfinallybeingabletorespectthemselvesiswhatmattersmostbykickingadisgustinghabit,ordefendingsomethingthattheyvalue.Itispartofeverydaywisdomthatrespectandself-respectaredeeplyconnected.Itisdifficult,ifnotimpossibletorespectothersifwedon’trespectourselvesandtorespectourselvesifothersdon’trespectus.Respectisanattitude.Ifchildrendon’thaverespectforpeers,authority,orthemselves,itisalmostimpossibleforthemtosucceed.

Leadbyexample.Forchildren,it’seasiertofullyembraceanideaiftheyseesomeoneelseutilizingthatideapositively.Ifyourespectthepeoplearoundyouandchildrenseethat,itwillinspirethem.Itgivesthemactualexamplesofarespectfulgive-and-takethathappensbetweenpeople.

LivebytheGoldenRule.Treatothersthewayyouwanttobetreated.Whencommunicatingwitheachother,parentsandteensneedtoavoidsignsofdisrespectlikeyelling,usinganastytoneofvoiceanddemonstratingdefensivebodylanguage.

Listeningisvital.Parentsandchildrenneedtobefreetosharetheirthoughtsandfeelingsandfeellikethey’rebeingheard.Todisagreeisacceptable;todemeanisnot.Teensneedtheirspace.Privacyisimportanttoteens.Parentsshouldrespecttheirteen’sprivacy,buttheydohavetheauthoritytochecktheirchild’scellphone,computerorroomiftheythinktheirteenisindangerorisinvolvedinimmoral,illegalordangerousactivities.Parentsmustlookoutforthewell-beingoftheirchildorchildrenatalltimes,thatistheirresponsibility.

Learningself-respectisguidedbyhowweseeourselves.Thepeopleinourlivesactasamirrorinthisprocess.Whenpeoplewhoareimportanttousgiveusattentionandencouragement,weseepositiveimagesofourselves.Atothertimes,ourinteractionswithothersmaymakeusfeelunattractive,incompetent,oreveninvisible.Youngchildrenbuildtheirsenseofself-respectfromtheirinteractionswithothers.Whentheyaremadetofeelspecialandvalued,childrengrowtorespectthemselves.Apositivesenseofone’sselfallowsthematuringchildtorespectothers.Self-respectisattheheartofrespectingothers.Whenyoucanidentifyandappreciateyourstrengthsandacceptyourvulnerabilities,it’seasiertotrulyrespectthevalueinothers.

Alhumdullilahourantibullyingcampaignsoverthelasttwoyearshaveassistedindrasticallyreducingthenumberofbullyingincidentsatschool.Ourantibullyingcampaignthisyearwasheldfrom26th–29thMay.Ourslogan“DON’T BLURT WHAT CANHURT”washighlightedthroughouttheweek.Bullyinghappenseverywhere…inhomestoo!Weappealtoparentstoextendantibullyingdiscussionsintothehome!

TRAFFICAlhumdullilahourtrafficproblemsinthevicinityofCampus2onRichmondAvenueseemstobesortedout.Trafficflowismucheasierbothinthemorningsandafternoons.However,itisverydisappointingtonotethatthereareoneortwoparentswhodeliberatelydisobeytherules-thisthreatensthesafetyofallroadusers.Weappealtoparentstoobservethe“one-way”rule.

ConstructionandRoadworksnearCampus1isstillinprogress.Weappealtoparentstodropoffandmoveonasquicklyaspossblesoasnottoinconvenienceotherroadusers.

FoundationPhaseparentswhoarepickingupsiblingsoncampus2areurgedtokeeptheirchildrenwiththem.Nolearnerswillbeallowedtoplaygamesoncampus2whileschoolisstillinsession.
