MIWIN TERM 2 It has been a busy time for the students of Miwin. Our Year 5 students had NAPLAN not long after returning from holidays while the Year 6s have been visiting Mullum High as they continue their high school transition. In class we are looking at how Australia became a federation and we are really enjoying reading the class novel ‘A waltz for Matilda’. We have also just completed our time with the Robotics kits which were a lot of fun.

BREAKFAST CLUBBrunswick Heads Public School are excited to offer a free daily breakfast club for all students. Healthy brekky options will be available to fill young bellies and set them up for a day of success. Starting Monday 17th June, the program will run 8am til 9am Monday to Friday on the stage. We are looking for daily volunteers to help distribute the food in the morning. If you can spare an hour once a week, once a fortnight or even just once a month, we’d love to hear from you! Please contact Tahlia on 0490 132 499 or at tahliajean21@gmail.com With special thanks to Mullum Foodbank for providing the nutritious donations.
SOCCERLast Thursday, the boys soccer team played Byron Bay PS in their PSSA Round 3 game. While the boys played very well and showed off their skills, they were no match for their much taller opponents. It was very pleasing to see how the boys played together as a team and continued to try right up to the final whistle. Well done, boys.

LEAGUEOn Wednesday of last week, a group of boys and girls went down to Ballina to compete in a Rugby League Gala Day held by the NRL. Despite only having one training run on the day before, Brunswick PS piut in a terrific effort to make the final. Unfortunately we were beaten by a much bigger team from Lennox Head. In true Bruns fashion, the students played hard as well as fair and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
SOFTBALLOur girls softball team took on Kyogle PS in round 3 of the PSSA Knockout competition. They played incredibly well as a team and put all their knowledge into action to win 17 to 2. Highlights of the game included great pitching and catching, a double play after an amazing catch from Lucy and a tag play at home by Luna and Rhianna. We are now Zone champions and the next game is early next term.
MULTICULTURAL SPEAKING COMPETITIONAll students in years 3-6 have been preparing their 3-4 minute speeches. 4 students from each year level have been chosen by the staff to present their work to the whole school on Tuesday. Two finalists from stage 2 and two from stage 3 will then be chosen to represent Brunswick Heads Public school at the local finals at Mullumbimby Public School on Thursday 27 June 2019.
OLD N GOLDIf you are around on Saturday, pop into the canteen and lend a hand to warm up and sell curries to the masses who descend upon our town looking for a bargain! If you’d prefer to donate a curry instead, the recipes are on the back page - thank you!
NETBALLOn Monday, some of our netballers participated in the PSSA Netball Knockout. We had a great day and came away with a win against Byron Bay PS and a loss against Mullumbimby PS. All players are to be commended for their effort on the day. A big thanks to Sharmaine for her outstanding coaching.
Dear Families,It has been another exciting fortnight. Congratulations to Verity Bee for her involvement in the inaugural Festival of the Voice which saw our senior choir open the festival and our whole school choir performing as part of a large combined school choir. I had goosebumps listening to our senior choir.
Well done to our Girls Softball, Boys Soccer, Mixed League and Mixed Netball teams - all the updates in the next column.Well done also to the students who represented Headlands District at the Zone Cross Country. Congratulations to Taj who has returned from a week at State AFL, his North Coast team performed really well and Taj reports learning lots as well having fun. Taj was also successful in gaining selection in the Headlands Rugby Union team and will attend zone trials soon. Last week Jess, Jodi, Ellena, Jennah and I were privileged to attend a Connecting to Country course where we met Bundjalung Elders and listened to Aboriginal speakers talk about their experiences and stories of the land. It was an an amazing experience, especially during reconciliation week and it deepened our knowledge of Aboriginal culture which will enable us to teach Aboriginal perspectives more thoroughly in our learning units.Good luck to our 3 dance troupes who will have all performed at Far North Coast Performing Arts Festival by the time this newsletter goes to print. As it gets colder we seem to have more and more lost property. It is a good time to check that all students have enough warm school uniforms and that all jumpers have names on them.Next week is the school Parents and Citizens’s meeting – if you are not involved I would encourage you to come along. It is a great place to meet other families from the school and contribute to your child’s education.Have a great couple of weeks, Mel.
DAY OF CELEBRATIONLast Thursday, all eligible students headed to the Torakina Beach for lunch and an afternoon of fun. Students participated in sandcastle building, beach cricket, skipping and much more. We had beautiful weather and a great time in the sun was had by all!
TOBIAS COLE VOCAL WORKSHOPAll the students participated last week and tapped into their musical brains - it was fun!
